Memo to Sarah Palin:

Your repoeated inapproprate mouthing of the term "reform" in last night's debate will never convince anybody with a pulse that you are a reformer or that your running mate is a "maverick".

Was this woman capable of completing an extemporaneous paragraph — a collection of sentences with subjects, verbs, objects and, if possible, an actual meaning?

Hey Mr. Brooks, eat moose and die!

Can’t believe this is from the Slimes.

This Republican was standing and cheering on the couch at Palin’s entrance and never got down.

How did the misconception that brooks was somehow a “conservative” get started?

Even if he is on the left cusp of conservatism, then like George Will and a few others, he’s a conservative elite.

I wonder if Kathleen Parker is still clutching to her hope that McCainw will dump Sarah and replace her on the ticket with Mitt Romney?

Only in the Fantasyland of the conservative elites...

Where was this woman during her interview with Katie Couric?

Those sections of the interview were edited out by CBS. Duh.

If the mainstream media want to know how to deal with Palin from here on, it needs to look back at the lessons learned from the whooping Ronald Reagan put on them in the ‘80’s. Yes, Sarah Palin was that good last night!

I got the feeling last night that Joe Biden genuinely admires and holds Sarah Palin in much higher regard than he does Obama. He won’t admit it, but I think I’m right on this.

if, in 1984, Geraldine Ferraro had spoken in the relentlessly folksy tones that Palin used, she would have been hounded out of politics as fundamentally unserious.

Yeah, like Reagan /s.

The problem with Ferraro and Mondale and Gore and Kerry and Hillary was they were shrill, disrespectful of other's views and incapable of not taking themselves too seriously. Noticed I left out Slick.

And the fraud that replaced Buckley weighs in.

Don’t you at least have to take one conservative position to even be referenced as a conservative even at the NYT. Apparently not, because I don’t remember Brooks ever having done so.

Noonan already fell all over herself in beaming last night.

Oh Kathleen....your up next to bat.

though she stepped over the line in claiming that Democrats sought to raise the “the white flag of surrender.”

Really? Brooks is such a wuss. Yo, we read your stupid columns leading up to the debate. We knew you were wrong, and now you do, too. Why not just admit it like a man?

As someone here pointed out, this is a "tepid" column. Tepid, dweebie columns are written by people trying to step around some obvious truth. Such as that Sarah, Middle-American accent and all, overturned the latte cart all over the liberals' laps.

With a bemused smile and a never-ending flow of words, she laid out her place on the ticket — as the fearless neighbor for the heartland bemused by the idiocies of Washington. Her perpetual smile served as foil to Biden’s senatorial seriousness...Where was this woman during her interview with Katie Couric?

Too much prepping from campaign handlers and PR people prior to the Couric interview, is my guess. By contrast, in the debate we saw Palin being Palin.

I really have to laugh when polls and pundits find the debate was a draw, and give Palin credit for not destroying herself.

The real issue here is that when ‘they’ say that they lean toward or say that Biden won, ——— is that a man of 30+ years Washington experience only ‘drew’ with an outsider with 5 weeks experience!!!

With all his knowledge and experience, he only had a draw with a newbie!!!???

Where was this woman during her interview with Katie Couric? On the editing room floor, you doofus! The McCain campaign should release her full answers to Couric/Gibson, and contrast them to the snippets we were shown. Media Malpractice, that's what's happening here.

Brooks is the token Republican/conservative at the New York Times, rather like William Safire in years past. Of course, he's not dependably Republican, and even less a conservative, but he seems to be the the closest thing to a voice of reason the paper has.

This is about as good a column as we can expect from the Times. You can almost sense the pain emanating from the editorial offices.

"Thursday night she spoke like a normal person."

What an uninformed and provincial statement to make!

Just goes to show that Brooks and his ilk are so isolated from normal Americans that they cannot comprehend the meaning of the word.

Brooks and much of the media are trapped in their own little time and place, with little contact with the vast real world out here where "normal" is Sarah Palin!
