WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Following the passage of the economic bailout bill Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said congressional hearings are planned to find the causes of the crisis and to determine "where we go from here."

"We were dealt a bad hand; we made the most of it," Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said Friday.

She said Congress will shine a new "light of scrutiny and accountability" on the nation's financial system to try to prevent a replay of the problems that plunged the nation into an financial crisis.

Reps. Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, and Henry Waxman, D-California, plan to hold hearings to increase scrutiny of the financial system, Pelosi added.

"We want to take our country in a new direction for the middle class," Pelosi said.

Frank told reporters Friday that starting in January, Congress will "have a major role."

"We have to rewrite housing in America. ... It would be highly irresponsible if we were to stop here," he said. "Now we have to perform more serious reform."

As soon as Pelosi finds out that it was the Democrats that were totally involved in the Fannie/Freddie debacle the hearings will shut down very fast ....

Pelosi you dope - you haven’t enacted one iota of accountability in office thus far, most especially, to the most glaring omission to date - Charlie Rangel. Your words are meaningless hype.

That’s odd. They know how to fix it; but they don’t know how it got broke?

Senate bailout bill

The Senate bill passed Wednesday night included measures that:

Allow Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to buy up to $700 billion in bad mortgage-related securities and other bad assets.

Allow the Treasury Department to modify mortgage terms to help homeowners avoid foreclosure.

Permit the government to receive equity in companies it helps so taxpayers get a share of any future profits.

Restrict executive pay for companies aided by the program.

Create an independent oversight board to oversee the Treasury Department program.

All this and much much more..
not to mention enough pork to choke a goat

Is this what the money we were forced to give is going to be spent for?

You mean their going to sit on their collective you know what’s and pretend they are investigating?

This is it. They’re out of there.

Will we hear Franklin Raines testify under oath? Or maybe James Johnson?
How about Chris Dodd or Barney Frank? Or maybe Obama?

No? I didn’t think so.

She already knows that. Why do you think the hearings are not starting until after the election?

Yeah, you really held the crooks to accountability by giving them our money right? My sentiment is that all Democrats and Republicans that supported this can go to hell. I despise every one of you and don’t come to my door begging for campaign funding. I don’t have enough to pay off crooked debts and finance your sorry butts staying another damn second in Washington.

I saw that. At least she had enough common sense to make these comments after the vote this time.

I guess I’ll never understand how that woman could outsmart every other Democrat to become the Speaker of the House.

Does that mean every other Democrat is mentally inferior to her? Wow, the implications...

Prediction. Dems are going to try and fool the public into believing that deregulation caused this.

CNN? Are you sure it's not AZ Conservative, or Scrappleface, or the People's Cube or even the Onion?

Those people investigating the current crisis would be like Stalin investigating "What happened to all those hungry Ukranians?"

Have you noticed that all of the networks have dropped coverage on this legislation and are droning on about the Palin/Biden debate?

They realize that all of these congressmembers constituents did not want this bill to pass. They can’t let that be shown on the news!
