ROANOKE, Va. -- Far behind in the polls and desperate for a break in his U.S. Senate race, Republican Jim Gilmore denounced Friday's federal bailout of the financial industry and relentlessly attacked Democrat Mark Warner for supporting it in their final debate.
"It rewards people with $700 billion of taxpayer money and sends that money into the hands of Wall Street high rollers who in fact took risks and should not have taken those risks," Gilmore said.
Combative throughout the televised hourlong confrontation, Gilmore put Warner on the defensive several times, frequently cutting into Warner's rebuttals. Warner explained that while he disliked the bill and the pork spending inserted into it, he would have voted for it to avert a failing credit market, millions of job losses and global economic catastrophe.

Good for him. Hope it helps.
Wish more Republicans would be as combative. For too long, Libs have lied and we’ve let them walk all over us. RATs get caught in a scandal and they tell you to F off. PUBs get caught and they are forced to resign.
We have got to remind our good Conservatives that the person on the other side of the aisle is NOT your good and dear friend. He will kill you, as surely as al Qaeda will. The sooner we treat Libs as enemies, the sooner we take our country back.
And don’t wait for others to set the example, do it yourself. You have Lib acquaintances, let them know where you stand. They don’t like it, find new acquaintances. If it’s family, cut them out of your will.
I swear, I've been thinking those exact thoughts for a long time now, but have never communicated them so directly. This is exactly the mindset that conservatives and patriots need to adopt in this time.
The other side has been ganging up on us with brass knuckles for a very long time, while our guys have continued to meekly fight back within the "rules" and with the gloves on.
And dont wait for others to set the example, do it yourself. You have Lib acquaintances, let them know where you stand. They dont like it, find new acquaintances. If its family, cut them out of your will.
I think most of us tend to distance ourselves from people we discover to be liberals, but you're right - we need to let them know that as long as they support the left-liberal agenda, that we can't associate with them.
Family is a lot tougher, but if any of you have liberal family, you already know that they consider that you belong to some sort of death cult, as a conservative. They've already cut you out of their hearts to a large degree.
I know this well, because I'm the lone conservative in my family, and they all think I've succumbed to the dark side of the Force.
