CNN's Poll vs. CNN's Spin (Part two)
Commentary ^ | Oct. 3, '08 | Noah Pollack

An astute commentator notes something about CNN's "poll" of VP debate previewers that on the one hand is utterly predictable given CNN's track record, yet it is still appalling: CNN declares that its poll finds Biden the winner, but CNN never discloses any information about who participated in the poll. This would be like asking people whether they liked the Red Sox or the Yankees and not revealing what percentage of phone calls were made to Boston versus New York. Without that information, the results are more than worthless - they are manipulative. CNN's headline deeclares that "Debate Poll Says Biden Won." CNN's "news analysis" also is headlined "Biden Wins Debate." Nowhere in either story does CNN reveal anything about its polling sample other than its size (611 people). CNN's poll stories of the presidential debate employed a respondent group in which Democrats were dramatically overrepresented, which predictably led to the result of Obama "winning" the debate. You can read CNN's poll stories here and here. The omissions in both should be glaring to anyone with even the slightest familiarity of how poll results should be reported. CNN deserves to be trusted on these matters about as much as Dan Rather deserves to be trusted with National Guard documents.

Click on the highlighted words to see how CNN's polls are not only rigged but how they DISTORT THE RESULTS of their own specious data! We need only remember that in the Kerry-Bush debates the polls declared Kerry the winner in EVERY debate. Polls are clearly being made manipulative to advance a particular agenda. By the way, have you noticed that half the time of every cable news station is spent in presenting and analysing polls rather than hard news? BEWARE!

I went to one poll last night and it would not accept my vote for Sarah Palin. Don’t remember which one it was.

CNN polled 7 Democrtas, 2 Republicans and 1 Democrat-leaning Independent.
It’s simple arithmetic but very reliable...

What difference does it make? The few people who still watch CNN were voting for Obama no matter what.

What struck me was how soon after the debate they released “the results” of this poll.

It seemed like a race to be the first to spin the result.

Just like Solidad O'Brien did with “counting the hands” of CNN’s focus group.

Exactly right - CNN’s focus groups are about as objective as the “news” reported by Olbermann and Matthews on MSNBC!

Great poster! It’s no accident that CNN used to be called the “C(linton) N(ews) N(etwork); Now they’re in the tank for Obama. The only decisions their executive staff have to make are which lefty they will propagandize for.

Well, they may have done some outreach to broaden their base by including Olbermann and Matthews of MSNBC.
