The Lewisville City Council is expected to debate English as the city's official language, as well as which documents to translate into Spanish or other languages.

The council discussed translating documents in August but decided to postpone a decision until October. The council will reconsider the document matter Monday, as well as an official language resolution.

Carrollton officials recently considered a similar resolution but decided instead to form a residents panel to develop a recommendation on that and other issues related to illegal immigration.

So far in North Texas, only Farmers Branch and the small Denton County town of Oak Point have adopted English language resolutions.

Good for Lewisville, if you want to be an American citizen, speak English.

85% of the American people want English to be designated as the official language of the USA. McCain and Obama have voted against it.

I live a little north of Lewisville. I hope they have a big legal budget. Every attempt by Farmers Branch to crack down on illegals has resulted in a lawsuit and usually the ordnance in question has been suspended or invalidated by the courts.

I wish them luck but.....

Saw this in yesterday's Dallas Morning News... I'm sure Jesse Diaz (LULAC from Dallas) will grace Lewisville with his presence soon... oh goodie for Lewisville.

Anyway... I lived in Denton / Corinth for quite some time (Plano is now my home... again). Mom still lives in Corinth.

I lived in Carrollton for a few years. I expect if they do pass such an ordinance, they will be visited not only by LULAC but ACLU as well. Didn’t Farmers Branch try this once and get their wrists slapped for it?

I dunno. Are the politicians required to start speaking in English too?

So far, Sarah Palin is the only one who does.

Cheers!
