Guilt by participation
The Spectator ^ | October 7, 2008 | Melanie Phillips

Whichever way this American election ends, it will surely be remembered as the one in which big media threw aside all pretence of objectivity and flung itself into the campaign as committed partisans for Obama. I have been documenting on this blog some of its more egregious acts of commission and omission – the double standards in the treatment of the two opposing sides, and above all the almost total silence over, or even endorsement of, aspects of Obama’s background, attitudes and associations, the exposure of any one of which would have surely sunk a white Republican candidacy in five seconds flat.

It is only in the blogosphere where proper journalism has been doing its job in bringing to the surface the deeply troubling evidence of Obama’s dubious associations and the misleading way in which he has sought to play them down. As I have noted before, it’s as if there have been two elections going on – the one in big media which (with some honourable exceptions) has been portraying Obama entirely on his own terms as the antidote to the old, failed political order; and the one in the blogosphere, which has steadily joined the dots in Obama’s background to reveal the network of radical, subversive, threatening and corrupt activists who have influenced him all his life and who have brought him to power – and about whom he continues to dissemble.

The fact that such a man may well become President of the United States is simply astounding. The fact that if this happens it will be because big media has ignored the evidence excavated by the blogosphere which requires the most urgent and thorough interrogation of Obama -- questions which simply have not been asked – is as terrifying as it is appalling.

Hannity is correct: The media has committed suicide in this year’s election.

They must believe that it’s worth it or that they’re getting something good out of the deal, though.

Melanie Phillips is such a great writer; I highly recommend her book “Londonistan” for really connecting the dots of the rise of Islamic extremism in a way that few have come close to doing.

So I take her words on this issue with due respect.

Say rather, it is terrifying and appalling that so very many people - and I must recognize the extent to which I was once among their number, at least partially, and to some smaller extent still am - take for granted that they know what is going on because they listen to the news and read the paper.

I say, "still am," because there are things like polls which I am easily suckered into taking at face value if I'm not careful. Is it not for such reasons that we come to FR to pool our skepticism?

Well, I think the biased media jumped this shark in 2000, and certainly so in 2004, and 2006. Remember the bile thrown at Bush in 2004? Recall such examples as the James Byrd chain dragging commercial and the MSM’s silent support of it in 2004? Who can forget CNN’s “A Broken Government” series run in the weeks leading up to the 2006 elections?

In the past the MSM simply facilitated the blatant partisan attacks while the usual lefty suspects did the actual heavy lifting, i.e., Hollywood, Michael Moore, celebs, and others. In this election cycle the MSM is directly more nakedly aggressive in their support of Obama.

As a curious side-note, if you go to William Ayers’ main website

http://billayers.org/

you will notice a very prominent name in the middle of the page: ABU-ZAYD. For those of you who are not familiar with Islamic culture, the name means “FATHER OF ZAYD” and it is Ayers OTHER name. As you may have noticed above, Ayers has two children which he raised as Muslims (Malik and Zayd), a fact that he openly exalts by applying to himself an honorary Muslim name.

To answer the last part of your question, Yes...

...And it's also the reason I try not to buy into the phony polling that's being done on an hourly and daily basis only to benefit the Democratic candidate. Especially when the details of the polling data are taken apart (IOW, the Fine Print).

My disgust with the MSM has gotten the point where I automatically turn the radio down during the tape delay of Mark Levin's show at the top and bottom of the hour when the ABC News breaks come on. I can hardly stomach these people's smug and self centered attitudes, so sure they are that they have this election in the bag, and it hasn't yet been held.

I think I have a new tagline.
LOL! And it’s a good one.
It goes well with a favorite quotation of mine, which I haven't used in quite a while . . .
The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing . . .

It is acquired wisdom and experience only that teach incredulity,
and they very seldom teach it enough.
