Actually, I mentioned that briefly. The New Party was a spin off of the Democratic Socialists of America to pursue 2 goals.
#1) Bottom Up Socialist Movement by targetting winnable local elections, especially those in which there was no opposition or in which an incumbent was facing scandal. They could then push for their 2nd goal.
#2) Reforming the electoral process to their “fusion” based elections, by which candidates could run under multiple party endorsements, Democrats, Socialist, Green and New Party. There is a link to a human events article in the post that explains how this works. When the Supreme Court ruled their “fusion” unconstitutional, the DSA abandoned the party and it’s membership of 20,000 collapsed.
The founders of the New Party were DSA leadership and get this ACORN activists.
