I used to have a Talking Tina.

I had a talking Edna doll. It was abusive. My sister-in-law begged me to give it to her and so I did. She acted, looked like, and talked just like the doll. Now they abuse each other. A real Islamic doll would be worse than that, and would threaten your life daily.

I saw these dolls at Target a couple of days ago. They aren't saying anything scandalous as far as I can tell. They seem to be babbling. I saw a story on the local news about the dolls, and I heard the same thing - babbling.

There is a tendency for our brains to try to identify and classify patterns into things that aren't really there - we see faces in rocks, dragons in clouds, or faces on Mars, for example. People sometimes think they hear sinister sounds when records are played backwards, too.

This well-known phenomenon is called Pareidolia.

So, it isn't goofy to see it or hear it - it's what our brains do naturally. It is goofy to make more of it than it is, which is what these people seem to be doing.

When I was a wee little tike, I had a Mr. Ed hand puppet and when you pulled its string, it would say stuff like “Hello. I’m Mr. Ed” among various other catch phrases from the TV show like “Hello Wilbur” and including the theme song “A Horse is a Horse of Course Of Course”.

It was one of the first toys I every really remembered from my early childhood but I played with it so much that after a while, instead of saying "Hello, I'm Mr. Ed", poor ragged and worn out Mr. Ed would say stuff like: “Hell… low….m eye Na M E is Head” – kind of sounded a bit satanic after a while….
