Safeway Grocery Stores - Obama buttons (Vanity)
Vanity ^ | October 9, 2008 | wac3rd

Posted on 10/09/2008 4:12:37 PM PDT by wac3rd

I was coming through the grocery line today when I encountered a female, middle-aged African American cashier sporting three (3) Obama political buttons on her smock.

I paid for my items and promptly called Safeway's Pleasanton, CA headquarters and asked for the Public Relations office where I spoke to the Director.

I asked her if Safeway, Inc. was officially endorsing Barack Obama as one of their cashiers clearly was showing political partisanship in the workplace.

She said, "No, we have a strict dress code of no athletic, political or religious insignia". She asked for the store address and assured me that the manager would remove her political buttons.

She apologized and said she would take care of it immediately.

I thanked her and hung up.

I know I am deep in the belly of the Communist beast, especially here in the Bay Area, but I felt better at least showing the company that I was not happy with an Obama endorsement while I was shopping at their store, in fact, it made me want to not shop there.

Absolutely not! There is this thing called the Hatch Act - google it. You should ask for the manager of that PO.

Whatever.
If I had done what the original poster says he/she had done, I’d be too ashamed to tell anyone about it.

Got this from a friend:

My name is Bonnie . . . and I LOVE JOHN McCAIN !!

“I’m choosing not to shout that as loudly as I’m thinking, because that would make me like you, which is something I can tell by that garish button you’re wearing is not who I want to be. Instead I’ll just keep my cool, intelligent, patriotic composure and avoid your socialistic short-sighted lemming-like behaviors. “

I live in Arizona, and trust me, if you drove around for a day or two and took a poll by counting bumper stickers, your study would conclude that Obozo will win in a landslide. I hardly ever see McCain bumper stickers, and I see Obama bumper stickers regularly. On the other hand, during the two Bush elections, there were a lot of Bush stickers and a lot of the Democrat opponent stickers here in AZ.

McCain/Palin may or may not win the election, but trust me, he WILL win Arizona.

I think there are two reasons I hardly see any McCain/Palin bumper stickers here:

1) I have heard that it is difficult to get yard signs and bumper stickers from Pubbie HQ all over the country.

2) I think many do not put McCain/Palin bumper stickers on for fear of vandalism to their vehicles. That is the only reason we decided not to put one on this year. My wife is a nurse, and several nurses have told her they want to put bumper stickers on but don’t, for fear of vandalism by the peace-loving Obamanaites.

Most people know there is a time and a place for things. This cashier had to know that this is against the rules. Plus, he said she was wearing 3 pins. The person to be ashamed is the cashier who was breaking the rules, not the one who brought it to attention. Everyone who knows me knows I am a big Palin fan, but at work...I am neutral. Just common sense.

Yeah, I don’t like the store putting a stop to free speech. I don’t agree with this. I believe in Freedom. I believe that the best thing to have done, was to leave your cart there at the check out, and say, I don’t want to buy stuff from a Marxist store, so I am exercising my freedom to spend my hard earned money, that Obama wants to take away from me....somewhere else. Thanks for letting me know where your loyalties lie. Good bye.

Several coworkers asked me to bring them in McCain/Palin yard signs. I hustled them into the building to the tune of “mission impossible.”

Even though the owners are staunch pubbies, other employees might take umbrage to my “politicking” at the workplace.

You have to be careful, in this day of PC overdrive.

“My wife is a nurse”

Then, you won’t be happy to hear that the ANA is endorsing 0bama.

She isn’t in that crap — this is a ‘right to work’ state and the nurses are non-union, and almost all vote republican.

I am so amazed by the lack of bumper stickers. When I was a little girl, most cars sported them during elections and we all just looked and went on with our lives. “Live and let live! It takes all kinds to make the world go round.”

No more. We fear putting stickers on our car because of vandalism. At what point did this country take that turn? What happened to lawful free expression?

I lived in SanLeandro in the early nineteen eighties, and Pleasanton, Castro Valley, and Livermore were bastions of conservatism....compared to the farleft precincts in Oakland, Alameda, and Bezerkly.

... when the Leftists have become so over the edge, so unhinged, and so lawless.

I see the Obama supporters are not afraid to put bumper stickers on their vehicles here. Some are on beater cars, so obviously they aren’t worried, but I see them on many clean well-maintained cars, and occasionally even expensive cars. They know that they can ‘express themselves’ without Pubbies and conservatives vandalizing their cars.

We, on the other had, aren’t convinced we have that freedom of expression without paying the price of vandalism.

About a year after W beat Kerry, I was at my bank and I saw one of their vans that had the back bumper covered with Kerry stickers.

I went home and called customer service and asked if they knew that someone driving one of their vans had been saying "I work for the Huntington, and I'm a loser" for better than a year?

After I explained, they said they didn't and assured me the bumper stickers would be gone the next day and that it was serious case of rules being broken.

They even offered to send me the paperwork showing the remedial actions and discipline meted out to the offender. I suggested that he be made to drive around for a year and a half with Bush-Cheney plastered all over his bumper so we could get equal time.
