A 22-year-old man who was arrested for identity fraud Tuesday is being held by federal immigration officials after he was identified as being in the United States illegally, police said Wednesday.

Juan Antonio Arias Guevara, who has a local address of 2 Lions Ave., Apt. 28, was arrested without incident around noontime Tuesday at Heiland Electronics on Industrial Drive, where police said he was working under a different name and Social Security number.

After a brief investigation, police said, officers discovered Guevara was in the country illegally, a charge being handled by Immigration Customs Enforcement officials.

Identity theft is a real sore spot with me nowadays.
A week ago I “lost” my wallet. It was found in the middle of the road-minus checkbook, ss, and voter id.
Sounds like identity theft to me. But local cop wouldn’t even do an official report. Said he was sure it would turn up. Then, after notifying all the important institutions, I callled SS and was told on the phone that I was to come to the office with id and would be issued a new number. When I got to the office my assigned worker said no no I wouldn’t get a new #, just a new card. If any wrong income turns up on my number at the end of the year THEN I report it to them.
With identity theft so prevalant, it sure seems as though the ones who should at least be able to do something, don’t. do

Identity theft is a nightmare. My daughter had her identity stolen about 7 years ago (she is now 13). How did someone get her number? I dont know. Of course it has been supplied to school, doctors, health insurance and on tax returns. All place where you hope it would be safe. It took over 3 years to straighten out. SS refused to provide a new number. To this day, she has credits (from working)according to SS. Crazy isnt it?
