Republicans held majorities in both houses of Congress five years ago. They could have done something, but were afraid of making the Dems/New York Times/Washington Post/ABCNBCCBS mad; so, in the end, they did nothing.
Leadership frequently requires difficult/unpopular choices. By choosing to not act, the Republicans put themselves in the position to be blamed for this mess.
There lies the fundamental difference between Freepers and most everyone else. We expect more out of our elected officials than simple finger pointing. Democrats are mollified by words alone.
Liddy, you're a day late and a dollar short, but I do hope you win, if only to keep an (R) next to that Senate seat.
I think your post is right on the money, my first reaction when I hear statements like hers is “if it was so important, why didn’t you do something about it when your party was in the majority?” Politicians really must think everyone else is just plain stupid.
That’s not true — you conveniently forget we had the likes of Warner, Specter, Voinivich and other very moderate to liberal Senators who blocked a lot of what Dole, Inhofe, Nichols, etc. wanted to get done. You do remember Trent Lott don’t you? Spineless.
Don’t go blaming the conservative Republicans when they kept shouting about the problem led by McCain, Don Nichols, Jim Inhofe, Liddy Dole and others. Blame the John Warners of the GOP along with the liberal Dems.
