Obama Unveils Small Business Rescue Plan During Ohio Stop
The Toledo Blade ^ | October 10, 2008 | TOM TROY

Posted on 10/11/2008 12:55:26 PM PDT by Son House

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama on Friday sought to reach out to white, working class voters in this center of Appalachian Ohio with his populist promises to rescue the economy, boost small business, and provide help with college tuition and health care — even as he accused his opponents of sowing division instead of tackling the economic crisis.

Now a University of Illinois professor, Mr. Ayers has served on two community boards in Chicago with Mr. Obama and hosted a meeting in his home for Mr. Obama early in his Chicago political career.

"I know my opponent is worried about his campaign. But that’s not what I’m concerned about. I’m thinking about the Americans losing their jobs, and their homes, and their life savings," Mr. Obama asserted.

Mr. Obama unveiled what he called a "small business rescue plan" to offer disaster-style loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration and to offer tax incentives immediately to encourage new investments.

Mandy MacLachlan, 30, of Chillicothe, said she wants Mr. Obama elected to "make sure my kids have health insurance and my grandkids have health insurance. I don’t want the rich to keep getting richer with no concern for the middle class."

Ms. MacLachlan said she believes the reason Ross County backed Republican President Bush four years ago is because of the negative ads that ran against Democrat John Kerry.

Construction foreman Bruce Bennett, 52, of Pickaway County, claimed, "The Republicans killed the middle class. They’re strangling us real hard. If you want to finish them off, just vote Republican."

I don't know where to begin, but here goes:

Republicans are criticized so much for being in cahoots with big business, yet they are seeming overwhelmingly void on economic issues.

Obama's tax increase on those who make over $250,000 is going to decrease capitol in many small businesses. Bigger Business is a great customer for Smaller Business.

This article is so much a lame attempt to minimize the Ayer's relationship.

What the plan?

Loans from Federal Small Business Administration's Disaster Loan Program or by Private Lenders.

Private loans guaranteed by the SBA

Eliminate all Capital Gains Taxes on Small Businesses

Where are the Republicans?

Obama doesn’t have a clue what a small business is. His past is empty of accomplishments, and yes that includes being affirmative action’d thru Harvard.

Release your transcripts Obama and let’s see what you’re made of, you coward.

Obama’s plan is a job killer. Small businesses making over $250,000 will be hit with higher taxes. Those same businesses are also the major employers in the country. A less than $250,000 small business is likely a Mom and Pop business with few if any employees. If Obama is elected look for 14% unemployment in two years.

A better plan for small business would be for Obama to drop out of the race.

“Mr. Obama unveiled what he called a “small business rescue plan” to offer disaster-style loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration and to offer tax incentives immediately to encourage new investments.”

Since tax revenues are down, and the US has no more cash, just how does he plan on paying for this? Talk about pie in the sky

Isn't that welfare?

He wants to put the whole darn country on welfare?

Who is going to pay for it, Mr. 0bama?

Just telling an Øbamite there are lots of businesses that make $250,000 to 5 million that won’t afford new employees because of the new higher taxes, of course I get the “they can afford it”, without Einstein realizing

1. American Opportunity is deminished, along with

2. Less tax revenues collected

Republicans aren’t getting this message out in any big way, they just let Democrats take the mantle for being “Better for the Economy” madness nonsense, tell the media Democrats are feces for the economy

My small business bailout plan: Government stay away and don’t tax the crap out of them.

That would be the correct, and most effective plan. Unfortunately, the government doesn't care about being effective - they only care about fattening their own coffers and enriching their failed-banker friends. Oh, and buying the votes of deadbeats by offering them "freebies" bought with the tax dollars that they've stolen from small businesses and reasonably successful employees.

Mandy, darlin’, if you can’t afford health insurance for your kids and GRANDkids....don’t have them! I would have loved to had more than two kids...that’s all I could afford!!!

NOW, there’s a concept....living within your means!

Small Businesses will NEED to be rescued if his “tax plan” is inacted. It will be impossible for them to survive without being subsidized by the gov’t...which is his Socialist objective anyway.

From the prepared remarks: " we'll work within the Small Business Administration to keep folks afloat, while providing tax cuts to lift the tide. It's what we did after 9/11, and we were able to get low cost loans out to tens of thousands of small businesses"

What do you mean "we" Senator?

Where were YOU in 2001?

Not in Congress that's for sure!

I live in Appalachian Ohio and Obama wasn't here. So where is this place that is not mentioned in the article?

Most of the “small businesses” that have under 50 employees are set us as “sub S” corporations.
I am retired now but I hold the majority of stock. The company has 32 employees with an average time on the job of 20 years. The company was started in 1970 with 200 bucks. It now produces between 5 and 10 million /year.
Under a “Sub S” the profits are taxed to me as personal income. I never have taken the money out. I have paid the taxes after picking up 80% of health care and reinvesting as much as I can in new equipment, etc. I will get creamed under the big Ass ‘Os plan

That “lady” concerned about healthcare who doesn’t want the rich to get richer should move to Russia. If workers get rich good they hire others and buy things to spur the economy. It is not taxpayers responsibility to provide her family healthcare. Sounds like she needs to train her kids and grandkids to get a job and buy their own insurance.
