Research on International trade is what he won it for. His research in that area is top notch. His columns are another matter entirely, but in the area of economics he is highly regarded.

Paul Krugman, nobel laureate. How old was Milton Friedman before he was recognized? And to add insult to injury, the moist-eyed Krugman left us with the horrific image of how he was informed of the prize: “I was stark naked and about to step into the shower....” It makes you shudder that such a mediocrity is put in the same class as the great Milty.
