SF Chron Writer Blames Mayor Newsom 'Naivete' If Prop 8 Passes
NewsBusters ^ | October 14, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

As we have seen before, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the universe when it comes to political smarts. In fact, many blame Newsom's poorly timed push for gay marriages in 2004 for John Kerry's presidential election loss that year. Despite the animosity towards Newsom for his role in causing the Democrats to lose their chance at the White House, San Francisco Chronicle political writers Joe Garofoli and Carla Marinucci gushed over Newsom as a new "hotshot" at the Democrat convention a few weeks ago:

Both Newsom and San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris appeared Tuesday at a Time magazine panel on "Hotshots to Watch" panel along with Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker and Rep. Artur Davis, D-Ala. Obama appeared on the same panel before the 2004 convention.

Their audience was a few dozen A-list media influencers: Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill, host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Joe Scarborough, Time magazine Managing Editor Richard Stengel and columnist Joe Klein, and Jonathan Capehart, an editorial writer specializing in politics for the Washington Post. Several major Democratic donors were there.

"This is probably one of the most important auditions they'll go through in their lives," said Capehart, who has dined with Newsom in New York in the past. "We are always watching for up-and-coming players. So when we hear their names again, we'll say, 'Oh, I saw them on that panel and they were great.' "

If this year's election results turn out to be close and Obama loses, perhaps we should send a thank you note to Mayor Gavin Newsom for making the Democrat defeat possible for the second time in a row.

You don’t know about that? Remember all the publicity given to gay weddings performed that year in San Francisco?

Chances are Obama wins big as McCain is a RINO hack that had better skills surviving as a POW than running his campaign for POTUS.

As for Prop 8, I have seen a lot of NO on 8 signs here in L.A. Chances are it will pass because people are sick of getting this shoved down our throats and having judges overturn what we have voted for. This gay marriage thing is a political tool to legitimize homosexuality. Many gays could care less about it because laws exist to give them the same benefits of marriage with out the license. A vote for 8 doesn’t make homosexuality illegal. It doesn’t stop responsible gays from showing their love for their partner. All it does is deny them a piece of paper.

Maybe we should take a cue from MOVEON.ORG and start a similar movement to tell gays radical leftists to move on and call it STRAPON.ORG :P

look for Kamala Harris to be a big time player in Obama’s Justice Dept, including possibly Atty Gen. She was early on the messiahs boat and has a similar history to The ONe. One black parent, one white, total left wing ideology and a sense of entitlement, She will fit right in with his administraTION.

Huh ?

Lots of states (including Ohio) had various pro-traditional marriage laws on their ballots because of this. How many extra conservative voters came for the ballot issue and stayed to vote for President Bush? Would Kerry have won here in Ohio if that issue hadn't been on the ballot. If Ohio had flipped then Kerry would have won the nation.

Thanks..I understand that. But the article seemed specific to Newsom and in that context, it seemed arragant.
