I was forced to read things like Native Son, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, A Walk to the Jetty and other crap in AP English back in 1995. We surprisingly read very few caucasian authors.

That's just creepy. They would prolly say because he broke the 'glass ceiling' for blacks, so merited inclusion into the book.
Bet there won't be a damned thing about Palin when it goes into print again, though.
Feeling lucky my kid is 16 and an avowed conservative. She knows BS when she comes across it.
