Warner Brothers block release of 'pro-John McCain film'

Warner Brothers has delayed the re-release of a film about American prisoners of war in Vietnam in case it influences the outcome of the US presidential election.

The studio has temporarily blocked the release of the DVD version of the 1987 film Hanoi Hilton, which will feature an interview with John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, about his imprisonment in Hoa Lo prison during the war.

The film, which gave a favourable portrayal of US prisoners, will now be released on November 11 - a week after the election.

Warner Brothers's decision is likely to raise suggestions that it did not want to aid Mr McCain's campaign by highlighting his wartime acts. The Republican candidate, who was a Navy pilot, was tortured during his imprisonment after being shot down over North Vietnam in October 1967.

Barry Meyer, the company's chairman and chief executive, last month attended a fundraising dinner for Barack Obama, Mr McCain's Democratic opponent.

The move has angered Lionel Chetwynd, the film's writer and director, who is a well-known conservative.

"Finding someone in Hollywood who says they don't want to affect the election is like finding a virgin in a brothel," Mr Chetwynd told the New York Times.

The film-maker also complained that other film studios were willing to release and promote films with potential for political influence. W, a biopic of President George W Bush directed by Oliver Stone, is set to be released on Friday.

Ronnee Sass, a spokesman for Warner Brothers, told the New York Times: "It's just us trying to be cautious and not affect the election one way or the other."

Stalinism. But at least now it’s been reported, this works to McCain’s advantage.

But "W" was okay for release.

No matter, all of their efforts to supress the vote and hand this to the OBAMANATION will fail.

I would like to have seen Ronnee Sass's expression during the delivery of this whopper: "It's just us trying to be cautious and not affect the election one way or the other."

Probably will make a good spokesperson for the Obama campaign.

W is being shown because he is not running for President. If he was on the ballot this year, they would have waited to show the movie.

Perhaps so, but their mantra is to tie Bush to McCain and, IMHO, they know good and well what they are doing.

If W were on the ballot this year, they would have premiered it on prime time TV, commercial free, with reapeats following Sunday and Monday night Football.

Dear Ms. sASS;

I understand you are withholding a film until after the election that portrays John McCain in a favorable light. I under stand also that Barry Meyer, WBs CEO, is a Barack Obama supporter.
It is because of your blatant hypocrisy that I only watch WB videos and listen to WB audio that has been downloaded for free.

Sure about that? How much money would it have brought in after January?

It’s the money. Politics is okay, provided it doesn’t foul the bottom line.

It amazes me they are going to allow W. to come out to make the Republicans look bad to HURT Senator McCain, but they won't release a movie about the TRUE STORY, of a TRUE American HERO, Senator McCain! You can bet the farm if it was about Nobama, it would have already hit the big screen. Oh, but I forgot, Nobama hasn't done anything in his career but hang out with shady characters & vote present. That would be an entirely different kind of movie! I think we should ALL boycott WB forever for being BIASED and not being honest with the very people that have made them RICH! They have now made my list of people that I will NOT support after this election because they are BIASED and Nobama has them in his pocket just like the Celebrity Obamanites that paid $28,500 PER PERSON just to be in his presence on the night the Nation found itself in the most DIRE financial CRISIS since the Great Depression! NINE MILLION DOLLARS to put in HIS pocket so he can delay the first pitch of the 6th game of the WORLD SERIES so he can throw his money in our faces with his little 30 minute prime time CRAP! I am one of those small business owners like Joe the plumber that will be taxed out of business if he wins this election. I hope some of the rest of you will join me in my boycott of WB, Oprah, Ellen, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Matt Damon, Madonna (hag), Sandra Bernhardt, Justin Timberlake, Hayden Panetierre, and the list is HUGE! Along with the BIASED MEDIA CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC. I think Senator McCain's daughter said it best the other day “I think people should stick to their craft, actors to acting, and people like my dad to politics”. I will watch FOX for any news I want & nothing but old movies for me from now on!! The ONLY HOPE we as Americans and small business owners have is John McCain! WAKE UP AMERICA!! This guy is as shady as the people he has been hanging around with!
