Weigel is right and Cafardi is wrong (also Kmiec.) No one of any Christian domination, and certainly not a believing Catholic, can possibly argue that the abortion struggle is lost “permanently.” Such permanence will wash away right from under their feet.

What that language really means is that it's inconvenient or embarrassing or a career limiter for them to be pro-life, so they're turning traitor because it's expedient for them to do so. I hope they enjoy discussing that with Our Lord at their particular judgment.
