Palin's Failin' (Noonan Barf Alert)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 10/17/08 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 10/16/2008 10:11:33 PM PDT by acsuc99

But we have seen Mrs. Palin on the national stage for seven weeks now, and there is little sign that she has the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office. She is a person of great ambition, but the question remains: What is the purpose of the ambition? She wants to rise, but what for? For seven weeks I've listened to her, trying to understand if she is Bushian or Reaganite—a spender, to speak briefly, whose political decisions seem untethered to a political philosophy, and whose foreign policy is shaped by a certain emotionalism, or a conservative whose principles are rooted in philosophy, and whose foreign policy leans more toward what might be called romantic realism, and that is speak truth, know America, be America, move diplomatically, respect public opinion, and move within an awareness and appreciation of reality. But it's unclear whether she is Bushian or Reaganite. She doesn't think aloud. She just . . . says things. Her supporters accuse her critics of snobbery: Maybe she's not a big "egghead" but she has brilliant instincts and inner toughness. But what instincts? "I'm Joe Six-Pack"? She does not speak seriously but attempts to excite sensation—"palling around with terrorists." If the Ayers case is a serious issue, treat it seriously. She is not as thoughtful or persuasive as Joe the Plumber, who in an extended cable interview Thursday made a better case for the Republican ticket than the Republican ticket has made. In the past two weeks she has spent her time throwing out tinny lines to crowds she doesn't, really, understand.

Is she still pissed that Bush didn’t put her on the payroll?

Peggy: get over it.

“Jealous woman. That’s all Peggy is anymore. Shame.”

I was thinking the same thing. Peggy is jealous. She wishes she could be in Sarah’s shoes.

Noonan’s columns are nothing but diarrhea of the mouth the last few years. What a waste of bandwidth and trees.

Go hang out at a Madonna concert, Peggy. The chicks there will be more your speed, and you will just love how the Skank Deluxe on stage trashes Sarah Palin.

“But we have seen Mrs. Palin on the national stage for seven weeks now”

It’s Governor Palin, Ms. Noonan. I doubt you would refer to the other men in the race as Mr. Obama, Mr. McCain or Mr. Biden. Referring a woman who has an official title as Mrs. is a subtle put down that bi*&^y women do to other women. And, as the woman who supposedly prides herself on eloquence and good breeding, I’m sure she knows this and does it anyway.

Peggy is just trying to get her seat on MTP Sunday. She writes nastiness about conservative Gov. Palin and gets invited back to MTP. Simple.

So in this thread, we’ve determined that Pegster is jealous, snobby, and an opportunist.

Can't say I'm much of a NASCAR fan, but I love a rodeo, chili cookoffs, BBQ, and bass fishing. I can laugh at Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy, and I've been known to drink a Bud or two. Point is, I'm hardly an Ivy League-educated snob that so many of you would like to think of anyone who dares say anything negative about Sarah Palin. But I'll be damned if I can figure out why in the world you all have just decided to fawn all over the Rachel Ray of the political world. Of all the choices, why rally around someone who can tell you the headline, without providing any of the detail to the story? Why make sacrosanct someone whose primary debating skill is to look in the camera and wink? Why, for God's sake, Why, are you willing to accept mediocrity for the sake of a twinkle in the eye. Sarah Palin, if we're lucky, will fade into history, and we won't have to put up with her corn pone ever again. Way to speak the truth, Peggy. I don't get it, and I hope I never will.

THE EMPRESS HAS NO CLOTHES.

Peggy, let me make this as simple as I can:

- We don't like you

- We love Sarah

- Move aside

I’m from NYC but not the city part of New York City

It's a joke, son, a joke.. well mostly anyway.

It's the city part that is the problem. Almost all cities, but that's one of the biggest and so is one of the biggest problems.

The founders messed up when they didn't put a Constitutional limit on the size of a city, at least one with a single government, mayor city council, etc.

They did know of the danger.

Hey Peggy, life is much easier in NYC as a liberal writer, isn’t it? It takes real character to stand your ground within this much public pressure. I guess you don’t have much character after all. I’m disappointed.

I used to like her too. Something happened to her after 9/11 and she’s become strange.

I think she knows she’s not going to get any work from the next Republican administration and she auditioning for jobs (and dinner invitations) with the media. Sarah Palin doesn’t need Peggy Noonan, but the old media will use her as their “conservative” voice.

Peggy is old news and old school. No one even says “coppers” anymore. That makes her sound so ancient. She’s just pathetically out of touch and raging about being superfluous.

Simple. She has strong convictions. She has spark. She is a fresh face. She has an ability to connect to people on a personal, emotional level. She is an outsider. She is a reformer. She is qualified, being governor of a strategically important state and holding an 80% approval rating. She is about as anti-Washington as you can get. She has strong principles and doesn’t compromise. She has integrity.

When you boil down the criticism of Sarah Palin, it basically comes down to the fact that she doesn’t “sound smart”. That’s not a big deal to me. I’m highly educated. My family is full of lawyers, doctors, and business owners. All college grads and highly in tune with the world. We all love her.
