At least the son gets it. Sec. Powell, a man (RINO-ness notwithstanding) was someone I had admiration for, but no more. There was a time when I would have voted for Powell as president. Alzheimer's setting in on the good general?

If McCain becomes president he could appoint Powell to several administration positions.I wouldn't trust him if he is anything like his father.

Reminds me of the FCC. Look for a return of the Fairness Doctrine under the administration of, “The One”.

But Powell said he was impressed by Obamas steadiness, intellectual curiosity and depth of knowledge. He called McCains running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, unready to become president in case of emergency. For the author to place these two sentences next to each other without recognizing the outrageous contradiction makes him/her as much of a hypocrite as Colin Powell.

He called McCains running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, unready to become president in case of emergency. So, where is the feminazi mob, screaming that Colin Powell is a sexist pig?
Just wondering...

As TransAfrica founder Randall Robinson said on learning that Powell had stabbed Jean-Bertrand Aristide and the Haitian nation in the back: Colin Powell is the most powerful and damaging black to rise to influence in the world in my lifetime. Any Black person who calls Powell a role model is a scoundrel or a fool. Most likely, both.

“intellectual curiosity”
Those sound like talking point words (I remember seeing those words from the Bush bashings). Powell said that his timing for endorsing Obama wasn't politically motivated. B.S. I'd love for some reporter to ask him on the record if he in any way communicated or coordinated his endorsement with Obama’s campaign.
To: SilvieWaldorfMD
If this is correct, oh, the irony! Love it.
To: SilvieWaldorfMD
I wish that McCain would bring up on the different campaign stops the fact that Michael Powell endorses him! It would balance things out! I'm sorry, but that's just funny. I think being Chairman of the Joint Chiefs AND Secretary of State trumps (by a wide margin) begin head of the FCC.

This will workout well for Powell, if Obama wins . Not so much if he doesn’t. Powell doesn’t like the idea of more Conservative picks for the Supreme Court because of his Liberal views on Affirmative action and Abortion. But the real Plus for Powell is that he can stick a finger in the Presidents eye for what he thinks was a sham at the U.N. prior to the Iraq war. He has not forgotten it.Oh ! And lets not forget his new job in the Obama Admin, that you know he has been promised.

And Colin Powell went on about the younger generation, totally clueless about the opportunity cost to the young:
high taxes = less jobs

Well, it seems like the black people are coming into their own. The younger generation appears to have outgrown the tribal pulls of the older generation. For all of Colin Powell’s achievements, he still hasn’t crossed that barrier - that he sees himself as a black man first, and as an American only (perhaps a distant) second.

Powell said that his timing for endorsing Obama wasn't politically motivated. B.S. I'd love for some reporter to ask him on the record if he in any way communicated or coordinated his endorsement with Obamas campaign. Lauer had it given to him this morning, took a pass:
LAUER: Which also begs the question would you like to find a role for him (Powell) if you're lucky enough to be elected?
OBAMA: Well I think here, here's what I can say for certain. He will have a role as one of my advisers. He's already served in that function even before he, he endorsed me. Whether he wants to take a formal role, whether there's something that's a good fit for him, I think is something that he and I would have to discuss.
Powell has been an adviser to 0bama, this idea that he wasn't politically motivated is yet one more farce being perpetrated by that campaign.
To: SilvieWaldorfMD
Powell (senior) has mostly been a disappointment. The only think of note he did was provide entertaining commentary during Desert Storm ("We're gonna cut it off and kill it.") Regarding economic, social and (yes) Military matters, he's out of his gord, if the thinks Obama is capable.
Powell plays the racist (and sexist) card. This role reversal between parties and proponents is amazing.
