Connecticut officials say cookies made in China that were contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine were found at a West Hartford food shop, and they're warning people not to eat them.

The Department of Consumer Protection says its investigators found Koala's March creme-filled cookies at A Dong market on Friday, and testing showed melamine amounts above limits set by the federal government.

Michigan-based Lotte USA Inc. is recalling the cookies from U.S. shelves and says it's not aware of any illnesses associated with the products.

Connecticut officials say they suspect other stores in the state may have been selling Koala's March cookies.

Two questions. Why is our govt still allowing any food products to be shipped in from China and why are any Americans buying any food products shipped from China? I know that’s the first thing I check on a label. If it came from China, I’m not buying it.

The Koala March or the .......?

Lotte is a HUGE Korean food company, so this means now that pretty much all Korean food is suspect, also.

Why is our govt still allowing any food products to be shipped in from China

It's the same reason our leadership stands down at the borders applauding as a conga-line of millions dances in illegally...During war time no less.

The same reason our government stood by and watched the entire economy all but slide off a cliff into an abyss of greed and corruption while enjoying their fat salaries, top shelf benefits, while planning garden parties in their exclusive high end gated communities.

Then the answer would be...because the American people allow it.

Then you would agree, Bush should have been removed from office over the disastrous border issue alone.

You're blaming poor working stiffs for the corrupt that ran Wall Street, the banks and lending institutions into the ground, as government leadership, in charge of overseeing and regulating these institutions, was directly responsible for driving it into the ground? And you say it's the "American people's" fault?

Ya notice not one single politician, no one government official had the decency to resign over this disaster? Not a one.

People get the government they deserve. Not every last one of us, but enough people vote in corrupt politicians. If you think the voters have no culpability, then there’s zero point in you and I having a discussion.

NOt only your questions, but what the He)) is a “limit on melamine” all about?

There should be zero melamine in any product except Melmac dishes.

It would seem so (altho is it possible it’s one of those things that is everywhere and thus impossible to completely avoid?)

Does anyone know if any testing has been done, randomly, on Chinese restaurants/buffets? I know there are thousands of such restaurants nationwide but maybe do a series of tests regionally and compare. Maybe it’s been done & I just don’t know about it.

People get the government they deserve.

Looking back at the past 8 years or so, I no longer trust the our voting process. I believe the fraud has and is totally compromising and undermining our entire electoral process.

You have to understand, the people voted, protested, wrote, petitioned, screamed, and begged government to control and secure our borders, only to have the government ignore them and in many cases, government leadership aided and abetted the millions that were entering this country illegally. This is no secret.

So the people did not get the government they deserved. This is what happens when government rules like a dictatorship as opposed to a Democratic Republic.

While I agree with some of what you say, I guess the difference between you and I is that I see many people who are comfortable as they are, and so they just accept the process as it is. The numbers who are crying out against fraud etc is very small. Otherwise we could still change things.
So, while you and I may not deserve the government we have, the majority does.
