Congress hits record-low 9% job approval, President improves to 29%

Job approval ratings for Congress hit a new record-low of 9% this month, with fully 50% of likely voters giving Congress “poor” job marks. Before hitting a new record-low this month, favorable job approval ratings for Congress had stagnated at 11% since returning in June to the previously record-low job performance numbers Congress hit in October 2007. The Democratically-controlled Congress earns positive ratings from 12% of Democrats, up from 10% who said the same in July, while Republican approval has fallen to 8% from 13% last month. Job approval ratings for Congress have also fallen among political independents, down to 6% from 8% in July.

Funny how we keep hearing the media go on about the President’s low approval numbers, yet we never hear them report on Congress’ low approval numbers!

I fear more of Pelosi and Reed vs. Obama..

With ratings like those, they'll be around for quite a while.

For crying out loud. Would it kill McCain to run against congress, hard, for the rest of the campaign? Every chance he had in the debates, he reverted to some bizarro "Republicans came to Washington to change it, and it changed us" instead of "Democrats have been in charge of everything for the last 2 years and everything went to hell!"

This damned bipartisanship fetish of McCain has been his undoing. It might be possible for him to limp across the finish line, but things would have been way different if he attacked the Dem congress 24/7 for the past 6 months.

I saw a poll recently where less than half the people in this country even know the Dems control congress! So people are furious with Congress and think the way to respond is to lash out at all Republicans. Frightening.

Hmmmm... a Congress with a 9% approval rating. They are totally out of control. They listen to no one. They’re only interest are self-interest and Reelection. Their only hobby is spending OPM (Other Peoples Money ). And now their predicting a landslide election for a first term Socialist Senator from a racist church in South side Chicago . Ya know..i think we need to elect even more of these idiots to Congress.

This is a great point. McCain needs to peg the DEMOCRAT
congress for the low approval.

So....when polls find that 75% of American’s believe “the country is headed in the wrong direction”, is it possible they are referring to damning influence of the liberals in congress and the courts?

Pretty clear what needs to be done. Vote all incumbents out -— democrat OR republican.

Once these schmucks get the idea that its public service and not a career, maybe there will be a chance to clean out the rats’ nest.

I know the way it usually goes is that people like their Congressman but hate Congress in general, but this is so bad it should affect some races.

It’s time the Republican campaign start talking about this to the media! Americans must understand that if there is an economic problem in the USA (and in the world) its not because of one single guy (George Bush)! Why can’t people at the very least blame Congress just as much!!?? The congressional majority has the power now right? So they should be just as much attacked my the media as the President. They have only 9% approval rating! Why is this not repeated every day on every news outlet by the republican campaign?
