I have a friend who is a black officer. Conservative across the board on every issue we ever discussed, and we discussed them all. The one time we spoke about Obama, I said that I didn’t believe someone could attend Wright’s church for 20 years and not share his views, and my friend replied, “You can’t prove he was in church on any of those days” When I pointed out that they sold “Wright’s greatest racist rants” in the church giftshop and that the black liberation theology was on the front page of the church’s website, he just changed the subject, but it was pretty clear that the possibility that Obama shared Wright’s views didn’t really bother him. We’ve rarely spoken since that day.
There is no doubt from this survey that this is a race vote. If you have not heard the Howard Stern sends a reporter to Harlem for man-on-street interviews you should.
I volunteer for the USO. Last night we welcomed troops back from Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, a usual weekly occurrence. Several Vietnam Veterans attend.
I was busy, but overheard them talking regarding the candidates. Six guys were white, one black. The whites were in agreement about voting for McCain. The black guy praised Obama for all his views. The white veterans were sitting there stunned.
As I said, I didn’t stop to get details, but I could hear what was going on. I wasn’t surprised.
It even surprises me more that race would enter their voting decision, considering their lives are on the line and not Obama's. Blind racism?
Of course they do! It’s even higher among Marines.
True I wonder if the votes will be lost?.
Hmmm...interesting story. For most blacks i know, it is almost always race first.
It is disgusting to listen to my black students talk about Obamanation in class. When asked why they are voting for Obamanation, they simply reply "Obama's my main ni**er! 'Bout time dis' country gots itself a black president! He gonna' take care of po' people by makin' dem' rich cracka's pay!"
Takes every ounce of my will to refrain from soundly correcting the flaw in their logic.

was discussing Obama last night on her program. Time after time, black callers would accuse her of racism and lying about Obama, but when she put them on the spot to prove any single thing she said was untrue, they immediately went into the racism charge. They are blinded by their own racism!
And in other news....reports indicate majority of people believe that the sky is blue...

Unfortunately this shows how strong the Race issue is, even in the military, where it shouldn't matter.
Isn’t the military 1/4 African American? If so, that would explain a lot.
I suspect that your friend feels discriminated against, and Oprah’s Obama is his way of striking back. That’s why Obama will win blacks, I believe, 98-2 or 99-1.

It shouldn’t because the percentage military personnel that are Black is much higher in the military than the general population. I think Black americans make up about 15% of the general population, whereas in the military it is probably more than 20%. BTW I highly value my Black brothers & sisters in arms. Unfortunately, most are buying into the “vote for the black guy” mentality. I understand how they feel, but think that Obama doesn’t deserve their support....he is not one of them or for them.
