Colin Powell’s Endorsement Of Obama Seen As Serious Betrayal To Republicans And Nation, Says Leading Black Commentator

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND Action, Inc., issued the following statement today regarding former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama for president:

“Secretary Powell’s endorsement of Sen. Obama is disappointing, but not surprising. Republicans know that Powell is a moderate-liberal Republican, but for him to endorse a socialist like Barack Obama in such a critical election is an act of betrayal to the Republican Party and this nation.

“Mr. Powell said he’s not supporting Obama because of his race, but he didn’t identify a single substantive policy issue that they agree on. Therefore, I have to believe that Secretary Powell’s decision to endorse was partly motivated by race. It appears that Powell, like ninety-six percent of black Americans, is blindly following a charismatic socialist ‘transformational figure’ without substance.

“It’s unfortunate that a man like Colin Powell who’s served his country admirably would now support a man who would put this nation and her people in harm’s way with his naïve foreign policy, and devastate the country with his left-wing domestic agenda.

“Did Secretary Powell forget about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s credo that all Americans should be judged by the content of their character rather than by their color? I cannot believe that Colin Powell honestly believes that the content of Barack Obama’s character is greater than that of Sen. John McCain. And I’m saddened by what this says about his endorsement and judgment. ”

NOT terribly worried about Powell endorsing Obama. Powell endorsing anybody is similar to WJC campaigning on behalf of someone. Guaranteed they lose.

Well, he needs to be repudiated, time everyone needs to be held accountable! I'm sick of it.

I love the taste of irony in the morning.

Four years ago, I was flamed off FR as a racist and bigot for daring to declare Colon Bowell an affirmative-action appointee who lost his nerve on the Highway of Death.

Four years later, I am proven right.

In fact, it backfired a little bit for Obama campaign. Now, the Hillary white Dems won’t feel guilty about crossing over and voting for a candidate of their own skin color.

“Powell agrees with Obama about abortion.”

They deserve each other then; together they can make the world safe for women who want to kill their own children.

That says a lot about both men.

Oh, abb, let it go. It's a free country and Colin Powell as much as admitted the closest he ever got to our party is “leaning”, by his own words. It doesn't make him shameful, it makes him what he's always been, neither fish, nor fowl.

Some in the military thought he was a “tool”, independents liked his seeming objective analysis. I suspect he's somewhere in between. He's just a guy. He's complicated.

No one in the campaign is having fits over him, and it's McCain's campaign. I doubt Gov. Powell will be on the short list for Republicans in the future. He's a Democrat now whether he considers himself one or not. He's always been pro-choice (as is Condi Rice). Can't be a true conservative and hope to get far with that “philosophy”.

I had lunch with a lady who is a lifelong moderate Democrat. She is for McCain but might have voted Hillary. She said the GOP should have nothing to do with Powell after this and that it was a serious betrayal of the GOP. I was pretty shocked she said it and I obviously agree.

She is listening to Glen Beck and Rush all the time now. I think we may get more moderate Dems voting Repub this year.

Oh and she is frightened by Biden’s comments and she thinks he is nuts.

"Colon" Powell needs a good power-flush...

Make that "Colon Bowel" and you've got it right!

I wouldn’t have flamed ya, Sarge. Though I would question whether or not Powell ever even had “nerve”.

Powell has always been a weak sister, which makes him a poor soldier, as well as a crummy diplomat.
