Colin Powell’s Endorsement Of Obama Seen As Serious Betrayal To Republicans And Nation, Says Leading Black Commentator

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND Action, Inc., issued the following statement today regarding former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama for president:

“Secretary Powell’s endorsement of Sen. Obama is disappointing, but not surprising. Republicans know that Powell is a moderate-liberal Republican, but for him to endorse a socialist like Barack Obama in such a critical election is an act of betrayal to the Republican Party and this nation.

“Mr. Powell said he’s not supporting Obama because of his race, but he didn’t identify a single substantive policy issue that they agree on. Therefore, I have to believe that Secretary Powell’s decision to endorse was partly motivated by race. It appears that Powell, like ninety-six percent of black Americans, is blindly following a charismatic socialist ‘transformational figure’ without substance.

“It’s unfortunate that a man like Colin Powell who’s served his country admirably would now support a man who would put this nation and her people in harm’s way with his naïve foreign policy, and devastate the country with his left-wing domestic agenda.

“Did Secretary Powell forget about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s credo that all Americans should be judged by the content of their character rather than by their color? I cannot believe that Colin Powell honestly believes that the content of Barack Obama’s character is greater than that of Sen. John McCain. And I’m saddened by what this says about his endorsement and judgment. ”

THIS is what happends when the GOP plays the RACE GAME.

Powell was NEVER a Republican.

The ONLY reason he was dragged up the ladder by Republicans was beause he was BLACK. Powell was ONLY promoted because of the COLOR OF HIS SKIN and NOT HIS BRAINS.

Unlike Condi, or Clarence Thomas or War Connerly - they are REPUBLCIANS FIRST and skin color doesn't matter. They are NOT racists like POWELL.

Our emphasis on diversity and political correctness has done us in.

And quotas etc etc

Thing that makes you go nuts is that the big majority of Americans hate this crap but TOO DAMN MANY of them vote for the democrats and when you point that out to them you get a blank stare

Very well said. A breath of reason in a sea of end game emotions. I always hate this time in the cycle because it seems like insanity sets in.

I remember about 20 years ago when
jesse started BOND there were almost no one who saw what was going on. Jesse and others kept plugging away and now more and more blacks are waking up and a whole lot of whites are speaking up.

General Powell’s endorsement of Obama is certainly a betrayal of our country. We all need to remember him for that.

Everybody is tired. Everybody is worried that the world will come to an end if one party or the other gets in. “Life is what happens while you're busy making plans,” is true for everyone — even the POTUS — ask George Bush. I don't think in his wildest dreams he thought he get stuck with 9/11 (no matter what the nut jobs say).

It will be what it will be, and as long as we all hang together, we won't hang alone. Seems like somebody else said that. ;-) We'll continue on, lick our wounds and live to fight again. That's what makes US Americans, and everybody else a cheap imitation.

You stated my sentiments for the most. Powell was a PC affirmative action suck up to the higher ups. Even though much of his success was based upon personal performance, he benefited greatly from the race card. Now that the race card benefits him the most, he is playing it again.

Not that I think for one second we won’t win. I know we’re going to. I have that feeling.

How’s thanksgiving going to be at the powell’s this year? My guess is after McCain wins, and offers a cabinet position to Colin’s son, it will be a filled with some precious youtube moments.

I found this in the blogosphere, and thought it was pretty telling:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/kausfiles/default.aspx

...Meanwhile, the normally level-headed Mike Murphy writes:

As a great McCain admirer, I am sad to say it, but the truth is the video of Powell's endorsement will boil across You Tube and do great damage in these closing days of the campaign.

"Boil across You Tube"? It's not even boiling across HuffPo. It's not, you know, compelling viewing. Maybe if you put some cats in it. .... My guess isn't that the Powell endorsement will fade quickly. My guess is it's already faded. ...

Thanks, luvy. Tell the Rev. Mr. Peterson, I think he's dreamy — just like Thomas Sowell — only younger. ;-)
