Barack Obama's campaign announced Monday that he'd be taking a few days off the campaign trail to visit his ailing grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, in Hawaii.
Dunham, 85, practically raised Obama while his mother studied abroad. She's the "white grandmother" he mentions in speeches, a "trailblazer in her own right," the BBC wrote, "having risen from a lowly position to be one of the first woman vice-presidents of the Bank of Hawaii."

He explains in his book, "Dreams from My Father," "We call my grandmother Tutu, Toot for short; it means "grandparent" in Hawaiian, for she decided on the day I was born that she was still too young to be called Granny."

Its all about the birth certificate for sure. He is in a panic about it. Do you suppose: Ailing granny is a good reason for Obama to suspend campaigning, BUT cratering economy and Congress deliberating $750 billion bail-out bill is not a good reason for McCain to suspend? Its Oct 21 and still no birth certificate. Suppose BHO was born in Kenya - imagine the meltdown and how that news would play out on the streets. Democrats would have to renominate another candidate. Some people have already voted.

A broken hip can be fatal especially with inactivity or a fat emboli. However, it still makes no sense if she were as bad as is being reported, why would Obama wait until Thursday???? Something stinks to high heaven.
As a person who is absolutely enthralled with family history, the search for Obama is one that carries more fascination than the search for the Howard Hughes descendants. I read of the two million dollars spent on Hughes ancestral history. A record.
Old documents are the "gold" to me. It could be that the search for Barrack Obama's birth certificate is fraught with difficulties. Not everyone is able to obtain the actual certificate. I am of the view that this good woman, was a good mother. I believe that the first person that likely would have been informed of her daughter's successful delivery of a son, was this woman. She would have known where he was born.
My sincere wishes for her recovery. She is an excellent example of someone who came through the whole spectrum of the depression and the war.
Having said that, the search goes on. Of much greater importance to America indeed. Senator Obama should make a statement.
There are starting to be rumblings about Obama’s drug usage. Today, Rush, Guiliani and McCain’s lawyer (in response to the NY Times hit piece on Cindy) were goading the DBM to investigate the drug use.
Gov. Shaheen’s husband, Hillary’s campaign manager in that state (VT? NH?) referred to the drug use in the primary, then got scratched from the Hillary campaign for bringing it up. Shaheen was making the case for Hillary by saying the if Obama was the nominee, Republicans would go after Obama about the drug use.
The tantalizing hints by Rush, Giuliani and McCain’s lawyer piqued my interest. They may be laying down the gauntlet to the DBM to do their job.
I wonder if Obama might need to gather his team together and plot out what to do about this. He must know it’s coming. The grandmother might be cover.
