There are five seasons for comedian Dennis Miller summer, fall, winter, spring and political.
With the presidential election just around the corner, Miller is armed with an arsenal of observations about politics and politicians sure to amuse his fans and outrage those who dont agree with his conservative libertarian point of view.
One would think that his entire stand-up comedy routine which he brings to the Orleans this weekend were about politics.
Its probably five minutes out of the hour, he says from Santa Barbara, Calif., where hes just spent three hours hosting his syndicated radio talk show. But I dont want to preach. Im a comedian, not a pontificator. So I do a little of both. Im sure if I did nothing but political screams for an hour people would get sick of it.
Although he may cover a lot of topics, its his political views many find the most provocative.
A strong supporter of John McCain, he doesnt trust the polls that show Barack Obama leading. If Obama stays ahead by 7 or 8 points till the election, McCain probably wont be able to pull it out, he says.
But if its under five points, I think the silent majority will speak.
1. On Barack Obamas claims of racism
I only think the race issue is out there because Barack Obama brought it up. All I see is an inexperienced guy that constantly reminds me its about race. For me it has nothing to do with the color of Barack Obamas skin and everything to do with the thinness of it.
2. On John McCain
Im a strong supporter of John McCain. Listen any time a guy has lived a life like him he gave me 5 1/2 years in a Vietnamese rat hole. Im completely amenable to giving him four years. Guess what, I like where he stands on most things, too, but I would vote for him just for the other thing. People always say, Whats that have to do with it? For me, everything. I would give it to him just for that. That shows me hes a mensch. Thats an unbelievable thing.
3. On Sarah Palin
I like Palin. Shes like me. I like her and I like McCain. I look at Biden and go, I wouldnt stay 36 years in Congress. That seems like a soft job. I dont quite get that. A true maverick gets out of there after 10 to a dozen years. Biden was sworn in by Nixon, for Gods sake. I look at Barack Obama and Im not as smart as him he went to Harvard and all that and he seems very smart. I look at Palin and I think, Who reminds me the most of the way I think in this race? And its her, so I gravitate toward her.
4. On abuse of power allegations
Her brother-in-law Tasered his 10-year-old son. I would hope she would use the office to hammer him. Hes a creep. What, people think politicians get in there and dont try to use their power? If she used her power as governor of Alaska to say, Hey, enough is enough. Weve got a cop here who used a Taser on his 10-year-old son, hes got to go good.
5. On the economy
Were in the middle of a classic bear market, it seems, and for those uninitiated with the terminology of the marketplace, a bear market is one where I look at the personal portfolio that I have and I immediately run out into the woods and (defecate) myself. So thats where I stand right now. I dont know much about the market but I do know if theyre going to give these guys who run these companies into the ground a golden parachute it should be an actual golden parachute and they should give it to them at 18,000 feet and use it right there.
I’m SO glad Dennis Miller “grew up” and became conservative.
They should have HIM doing the SNL newsdesk again....if they want their ratings to come back. He was the best, imo.
My favorite radio program. I tell everyone I can about the Dennis Miller Radio Show. You can listen online everyday if it’s not in your area. It’s wonderful.
I’m not a huge fan of his radio show (his personality and voice are not a good fit for the medium) but Dennis Miller is an absolutely brilliant man and comedian.
Look at our comedians and compare them with the leftist drivel. Even if Conservatism retreats for a few years, we can always be proud of who we are.
Yes folks, we are just plain BETTER than them.
Uh oh, I’m sure someone will tell me that “them” is codeword for black. TeeHee. Whatever, my skin is brown!
I have watched Dennis Miller for years, I can recall his M(essiah)SNBC show with Mobley the Chimp, he is really bright guy.
He was the first one to point out that David Geffen annointed the Obamao 2 years ago.
That and to be honest, he has the best vocabulary and referencing ability on the fly of anyone I’ve seen in a loong time.
“I look at Barack Obama and Im not as smart as him”
Oh for God’s sake Dennis, yes the hell you are. It is not even close.
” he went to Harvard and all that”
Harvard, so one. Thinking people correctly view that as a LIABILTY.
“and he seems very smart”
Overly coached, mechanically cadenced, pause-laden, platitude-heavy speech might get you an A in 8th grade speech class, but it does in any way signify intelligence.
McCain's been in the Senate since 1986.
You're wrong, Dennis. Your belief in common sense makes you far smarter than "That One".
Call him the William F. Buckley, Jr. of comedy.
I think Miller would say, "Yeah, but at least he has engaged in other significant endeavors."
I get DM and SH at the same time in syndication here. I check in on Sean but it has become the same program. Besides a few new policital quotes, I don’t get many new ideas to ponder.
If Miller is on about politics, I tune in. If he is recanting his entertainment career, I go to Hannity. If Hannity is a subject re-run, I throw in a CD and check in on FR.
NO WAY, NO HOW, NO BAMA!
Here is the sign in my front yard:
I hate Sean’s “You are great American” thing. That is weird to me.
“3. On Sarah Palin

THANK you, Dennis Miller, we’ve been waiting for you to come around.
Oh for Gods sake Dennis, yes the hell you are. It is not even close.
You're supposed to pick up on the subtle sarcastic tone of these statements. Dennis is speaking in a code that's understood by middle america, but not understood by your average NYC lib.
