DALLAS A fence along the U.S.-Mexico border would trample on human rights, and its construction should be halted, a group from the University of Texas will contend today during the first international hearing on the issue.
Several students and faculty members will present their concerns during the hearing in Washington before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, part of the Organization of American States.

Our human rights and our Constitution is for the people of the United States. It’s up to Mexico to take care of their people.
It has no authority. No one from our government attended, as near as I can tell. The “hearing” was under the auspices of the OAS here in Washington, D.C. The OAS has no authority over anything on American soil. I looked at the “studies” this group prepared, on the UT-Austin website and they were a joke. One of the “scholarly works” cited newspaper articles as sources, and it entire premise was bogus, that is, poor Hispanics are disproportionately impacted by the fence (unless, could be? that more poor people live along the Texas border than elsewhere in Texas.) They are claiming that the government “denied them access” to information that has been on the Internet and provided to regional libraries for months if not years. I think the adjective for this effort is “sophomoric.”
