A 43-year-old Japanese piano teacher's sudden divorce from her online husband in a virtual game world made her so angry that she logged on and killed his digital persona, police said Thursday.

The woman, who has been jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo City said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

May I suggest that these people step away from their computer and get a life?

So a woman committed a virtual murder of her virtual husband in a virtual game. Is she staying in a virtual prison?

We need to see virtual images of the virtual killer so we can decide if she’s virtually guilty.

The trial will be held online by a bunch of world or warcraft players acting as judge and jury.

Uh, the article clearly states:
The woman was arrested Wednesday and was taken across the country, traveling 620 miles from her home in southern Miyazaki to be detained in Sappporo

LOL! I killed a good friend’s beloved player character while playing Dungeons and Dragons years ago and he never spoke to me again.

We have many mutual friends and I hear he STILL hates me and brings it up in conversations for drugging his beloved Paladin and sacrificing him to my goddess, I think that happened back in ‘82.

Wow! Where to start?

1) Shouldn’t the “Maple Story” virtual police have jurisdiction over this case?

2) I bet she gets more time than the Democrat state senators’s son who hacked the email of the next VPOTUS.

3) These cyber community people are really creepy. They seem to get just a wee bit to emotionally involved in their fake world. Virtual murder???

4) Then again, if 0bama gets elected maybe we would all do well to escape into a virutal “FreeperWorld” community, where taxes and crime are low, the Constitution is respected and Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (for a start) are in prison.

Despite the ease with which we all can joke about it, this is cutting-edge legal stuff.

I'd like to be detained in Kirin Ichiban, and if there was a Japanese chick there too, it'd be all the better.
