No big deal, I can actually understand something like this happening - would not surprise me in the least. 2008 will be much more heated than 2000 and 2004. I know of three people with signs stolen (2 McCain, 1 Obama), and they've never had that happen in the past, and the news has had quite a few sign stealing/vandal stories.

Michelle Malkin has updated her site, including what looks like her MySpace page (where she boasts about lying) and mentions that in the police report, she told police that the attacker sat on her chest. That rules out an attacker scratching out the B upside down, with her head between his knees. It gives weight to the "did it in the mirror" theories.

If she faked this, she will end up doing a lot of harm to McCain's campaign. I hope for her sake that it's real.

How will it hurt McCain’s campaign? Finally, after ignoring the laundry list of violence/vandalism against McCain supporters, something that is VERY PLAUSIBLE in the minds of most Middle-Americans gets a headline. Fact is, there are some very negative stereotypes about Obama and his supporters that will be reinforced by this story and NO retraction is going to put the genie back into the bottle for Obama. The e-mails have gone out, the message boards have been lit up and this story is out there. The wishy-washy that had some doubts about Obama will be tipped in large numbers. The media will release a poll that is a total lie, saying how much this hurt McCain but the fact is, I believe this hurts Obama no matter what.

If she did this to herself, I suspect I won’t be alone here on FR in thoroughly condemning her.

OTOH, if her story holds up, Obama should be forced to not only apologize, but to call off his thugs from getting “in their face”.

Apparently now there is more information being released that does not seem to add up. While Malkin seems to want this to be a hoax, she is posting factual information as far as I can tell, and if police say her account doesn’t match up with video surveillance then something is wrong. I don’t know the extent to which it doesn’t match up, but I hope for everybody’s sake the truth does come out. This would be especially bad because Obama thugs ARE doing things of this nature.
