If Obama was born in the US, he is a natural born citizen. His parents can not take away his citizenship even thru adoption.

Parents cannot renounce U.S. citizenship on behalf of their minor children. Before an oath of renunciation will be administered under Section 349(a)(5) of the INA, a person under the age of eighteen must convince a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer that he/she fully understands the nature and consequences of the oath of renunciation, is not subject to duress or undue influence, and is voluntarily seeking to renounce his/her U.S. citizenship.

Recall that Obama’s mother worked at the US Embassy in Indonesia. her employers would have had full knowledge of Obama and his status. Maybe Obama obtained some kind of Ambassadorial waiver for being the child of an American Embassy employee.

Yes, if he was born in Hawaii then for 99% of America he is qualified citizen-wise, whatever the technicalities. If he was born in Kenya, then it gets more complicated. Of course, he isn’t qualified in terms of experience.

A parent can’t take status away. But Obama, by traveling on an Indonesian passport at the age of 20, would have had to renounce his US citizenship. Obama made that choice, not his mom.
Also, I think he was enrolled at Occidental as a foreign student. I know I would have been a little overwhelmed to have arrived at college and have 2 foreign roomates. Sounds like Occidental roomed foreign students together. Wonder if anyone could find someone who was enrolled as a foreign student there and ask.

If Obama renewed his Indonesian passport so as to enable him passage into Pakistan and India, then he would have been required to repudiate citizenship to any other nations including the US.
