Remember that NewsWEAK is the Washington Post Corp. They have newspapers, TV stations, magazines and Buffet (the Soros of Omaha) is the largest shareholder.

NewsWeak’s affiliate TV stations are making tens of millions in TV ads for Obama ditto with web banner ads on Wa PO and NewsWeak web sites.

This poll is clearly BS. It is laughable that Obama has anything over 46% let alone 53%. Ignore this sh**.

IBD/TIPP and Battleground are probably the only independent pollsters without an agenda.

Good lord, look at the internals on this one.

36% D, 36% left-leaning Is, and 28 Rs. Unrepresentative of likely voters. Not valid. Bogus. Fraudulent. A waste of time. They must have polled their own reporters and editors, plus a few secretaries and mail clerk types in order to get the Republican total up to 28. I wish they would stop doing that.

Ya gotta understand. Newsweak is trying to sell magazines. The only people still subscribing to that garbage are doctors’ and dentists’ offices.

I second that quote — shows how bad Obama is doing when they have to sample more Indys then Republicans to get their numbers.

That links to the PDF. it says 27% Republican. They may have also oversampled 18-34, I’m not sure though.

I wonder what this poll would say at 1996’s 39-35 turnout.

Anyone want to guess how many of the Independents are actually Democrats?

If they over-sampled by party, then it's most likely that they would over-sample by age and race, too.

Let’s say the I’s are really 12%, and split the other 28% 50/50. That would say the sample is 50% D, 41% R. In other words, it’s worthless.

Even if this poll was polled at 36D/36R/27I, their internals would indicate that Obama would have 49.2% and McCain would have 43.8%. Sorry, but if the GOP matches the DEMs in voter turnout, McCain get 300+ EVs. End of story.

worthless poll but there is one fun internal:

Biden is unknown by 4 times as many people as THE GOVERNOR!
(Well, it’s 4% to 1% LOL!)

So the media should spend a little time talking about Joe, even though doing so would cut into the time they can spend lying about THE GOVERNOR.

I suppose in the Left’s dream world, Republicans would make up only 27% of the electorate. The Left/MSM is trying their hardest to depress our votes and marginalize us so their dream becomes reality.

I must say it’s making me very angry and it encourages me to work harder. I want to see the 0bama campaign go down in humiliation.

I’m just thinking that we could come up with some pretty damned good polls if we gave the Democrats 27%, the Independents 36%, and the Republicans 36%. And then we would be the folks crying in our spilled milk on November 5th.

If Newsweek is truly breaking out the polls the way you state here, we have some incredible amatures, or incredible propagandists at work here. Most likely both!

There will weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth on 11/05/08. Sorry Democrats, I feel your pain. Try putting some ice on it.

The number for 18-34 y/o voters looks about right, at least for the LV model (RV looks a little bit oversampled). I'm wondering where they got the absurdly low 35-44 y/o number though. It's low by at least 4%, I'd say. The big trick is with the D/R breakdown. 9% D advantage, which mimics the Operation Chaos/ACORN tomfoolery, but is at least a 6% departure from historical breakdowns from within the last two years, and is even further afield from the post-voting partisan breakdown in the 2004 election.

One thing that bothers me is that I've been hearing of a number of people, such as our own FReeper Italianquaker, who report that they were called by a polling outfit, but were hung up on after they identified as Republican, conservative, McCain supporter, etc. Hung up on! I can see maybe weighing certain respondants out from your data set to fit your particular blend of special sauce, but hanging up on people? Refusing to even gather someone's data after they identify a certain way? IQ isn't the only FReeper who's reported this, and I've heard anecdotal evidences elsewhere to the same effect. Hanging up on someone strikes me as a singularly incompetent way to conduct a poll, to be sure, and indicates to me that there is more than just some past-the-expiration-date special sauce going into some of these polls.

How about some behind-the-scenes threats? Pressure from the Obama campaign? The Thugocracy may have started a year ago.
