Theaters get a small cut 5% first week which generally increases 5% per week from the gate. However, they make most of the real $ on concessions, so high turnover hurts their ticket revenue. But, movies drop fast—so longer running movies don’t get concession goers. Vicious circle, studios make out like bandits.
At least that’s how it was in the mid 90’s. College job. Other comments about giving “half-stubs” are another common scam. Kid in the box-office keeps your money and doesn’t print out a new ticket, thus screwing the studio.
