Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading ant-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."

If you can’t look at the MANY MANY appearances Romney made stumping for John McCain (and still does) and not give him a gesture of thanks, you’re clearly missing something.
Romney is pro-McCain all the way. Compare how he stumped for McCain more than any other ex-candidate after he dropped out of the race.
Compare him to the Huckster who kept in the race for his ego long after it was obvious he couldn’t win. Huckster is far less loyal to the party than Romney.
You people need to bury the Hatchet about Romney for whatever bizarre reason you hate him so much.
Romney would have done far better than either McCain or Palin in the debates.
That said, I’m voting for McCain/Palin. Obamanomics under Obamas “new communists” the NeoComs, would be untolerable.
I personally know 3 Independent voters (2 women, 1 man) who would vote for McCain if he picked either Mitt or Rudy for VP. The two women HATE HATE HATE Sarah, the man is very tepid at best.
I personally think the chicks are jealous of Sarah: they freak when I mention how she (is) “talented and beautiful, with such a nice family”.

I appreciate your analysis. If this report is true and your perspective about Romney’s objective is accurate, he shows how far he is misaligned with the Joe Plumbers or the nation and crowds that show up at Palin rally’s.

I would have voted for him as the nominee, and I’d have been fine with him as the VP pick. But I agree - he’s not Reagan, and he’s not the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement.
Eric Cantor, Palin, Bobby Jindal - those are the names for the future.

I reiterate — my point stands regardless of whether this particular story is accurate. I don’t particularly believe or disbelieve this story ... could be true, could be false. It really doesn’t matter.

Riiiiight. And it depends on what the meaning of "is" is too. You are parsing. The difference between a candidate dropping out and suspending a campaign is a technical one. Romney was not going to reappear in the race unless McCain disappeared. Not once did Romney try to use his delegates against McCain. So your distinction between him "only suspending" is rather moot.
On the other hand I did not see that other candidate with fewer delegates and less of a chance to win even suspend his campaign for party loyalty.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. But it was obvious pretty early on that his supporters were somewhat zealous (though maybe not as much as Rudy's or Paul'). I have no doubt that some of his supporters are trying to derail McCain and particularly hate Palin. The real question is whether Romney has any involvment in it.
And let's not forget that Romney IS NOT a conservative as evidenced by his donations to Planned Parenthood, his support for militant homosexuality (and the implementation of homosexual marriage) and socialized medicine (Romneycare).

Romney was rated a "C" overall by Cato. Here are the facts.
As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal.
