I’m speechless.

There is no value in allowing an 8-year old to fire a machine gun regardless of supervision. The parent will probably be charged with reckless endangerment or something similar.
What was an 8-year old doing with an UZI, even with “adult supervision”? I fired a .45 Thompson once when I was in the Navy in a firearms training session at sea on a surfaced submarine. I remember it bucked badly and required an effort from all of my 209 lbs to hold it steady before I got control of it (M16s on full auto however were a snap). I’ve never fired an UZI, but imagine that their lighter frame would be even more difficult than a Thompson.
Unchecked muzzle rise. What a horrible accident. Prayers for him and his family.
Terible tragedy. I won’t question the man’s right to raise his child as he sees fits, but I do question the wisdom of handing an automatic weapon to an eight year old. They just don’t have the strength for controlled autofire. Truly sad.
Tragic. My prayers are with the family and the owners of the firing range.
I can’t imagine letting an 8-year-old shoot a fully-automatic weapon. They can be difficult for an adult to control.
Horrible.

Never fired an uzi, but as I understand it, a ridiculously light gun that flails quite easily.
Letting an 8 year old fire that is bone-stupid.
It's a shame the Certified Instructor seemed to be unaware of this possibility.
DAd was head of Emergency at a hospital,,an MD
I never saw a uzi fired, but I once shot a shotgun and it nearly knocked me down.
Bummer.
I think it is important to teach kids to shoot handguns and rifles at a young age, but I don’t think I would allow my 8 year old to fire an automatic weapon.
Agreed. There's plenty of wrongs here - and enough blame for all involved. Sadly, the child bears the burden for all of them. How sad.
Really? LOL! My 60 lb. 13-year-old daughter shoots my Ruger P345. That's got a bit more kick to it than a M1911A1.
Frankly, I have a lot of trouble believing this.
After boot camp (USMC) we got to do "fam firing" on a whole buncha different neat stuff....I remember that 45 caliber submachine gun; we'd stand at the edge of a deep pit and fire down at a steep angle -- reason being, and we were well warned, it'd start to kick up and to the right as you fired.
Then move to England.
This is tragic. I can’t see letting an 8 year old fire an Uzi. Maybe it’s just me but at that age a .22 would be the largest caliber allowed to any kid of mine. Safety first. Safety second. Safety always. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this child.
Stupid is as stupid does, an eight year old does not have a need to be firing a full auto, why not start him out on a ten gauge shotgun.
