Martin County commissioner wants mystery of Mahoney's mistress resolved

STUART — Martin County Commissioner Sarah Heard wants county administrators to clear up the mystery about the identity of the county engineering official with who Congressman Tim Mahoney admitted having an extramarital affair.
“I blame Martin County,” Heard said. “Martin County needs to clear some good reputations and mine is one of them. I’m sure there are an awful lot of women in the Engineering Department who aren’t happy right now either. I’m sure people are speculating about them too. It’s difficult for all of us.”
After a sex scandal rocked his re-election campaign, Mahoney admitted having an affair with a Martin County engineering official who he worked with to obtain a $4.3 million reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for debris collection in gated communities following the 2004 hurricanes.
The scrutiny of the Martin County Engineering Department intensified after The Associated Press reported that a senior federal law enforcement official said federal agents are examining whether that affair was behind his decision to push for the reimbursement, which FEMA had denied twice previously.
But Martin County Administrator Duncan Ballantyne said the FBI has not contacted anyone in the Martin County government regarding documents related to the FEMA reimbursement and the FBI declined to tell county officials whether the circumstances surrounding the reimbursement are being investigated.
Ballantyne declined to identify the high ranking county engineering official, but said her conduct with Mahoney remains under review. There is no timeline for what that process will be completed, Ballantyne said.

I am a native Floridian and at least in most of our counties - we go after this kind of crap. Mahoney is toast.
Mahoney is getting bad advice....all he needs to do is say he’s a sex addict and he can play the victim card.
