Choosing Prosperity and Strength: The Polls Move Towards McCain
Townhall ^ | 10/29/08 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 10/29/2008 12:42:29 PM PDT by pissant

Yesterday's Gallup shocker (a 2 point gap in the "likely voter" model) is going to have a follow up today if Drudge is right: A Rasmussen poll narrowing the gap to 3 points. Now we know why John McCain and Sarah Palin were both in PA yesterday. The election is tightening across the map as those of us who remember 1976 have been predicting all along. Barack Obama represents a much more radical alternative than Jimmy Carter did in '76, and Carter's unusual profile sent voters by the millions towards Gerald Ford in the closing days. The same thing is happening this year as the very well known and very reliable John McCain enters his last big comeback within striking distance and very much on target.

That target is the combination of Obama's plans for massive tax hikes and a "share the wealth" program and the Biden gaffe on Obama's inexperience attracting a crisis within six months. (Joe Biden also helpfully informed voters yesterday that the taregted taxpayer level is dropping already, this time to $150K).

McCain is pounding on the fact that Obama's soaring tax burden will guarantee that the market losses of the last month will not be coming back, and that even if they did, would not be left with the taxpayers who earned them. Biden's candor is forcing voters on the fence to consider who they want in charge when the mullahs of Iran make their move towards nukes or against Israel through Hezbollah --or both. (See Michael Barone's latest for a summary of Obama's commitment to the biggest mistakes made in the Depression-era: raising taxes and trade barriers. HT RobinsonandLong.com.)

If the polls tighten any further, panic will grip the inside of Team Obama. In fact, the quick jumps toward McCain guarantees that the GOP will stay energized through the end of the campaign. McCain voters know how hard the MSM has been working to demoralize them and keep them home, and the backfiring of the attempt is wonderful to behold.

I have been in Colorado and Minnesota with my colleagues Dennis Prager and Michael Medved, and will be at another rally with them tonight in Cleveland. I have never seen such extraordinary turnouts or enthusiasm. The GOP base is every bit as passionate and activated as the Democratic base, outraged at the MSM and deeply worried about the prospects of an Obama-Pelosi-Reid troika doing long lasting damage to the economic and national security of the country as well as to its Constitution through hard left judicial appointees.

In a 50/50 country, every presidential election is going to be close, and this one is no different, no matter how often goofy polls and MSNBC tells you otherwise.

Be sure to do your part: Send any bitter, gun-and-God-clinging PA voters you know the link to Perry Nunley's "Redneck Date" at www.amaze.fm to remind them of the Obama-Murtha contempt for their beliefs and region.

Our views have been ignored and not represented by the MSM.
We have been under-polled and ridiculed, and openly taunted.

Make no mistake.

The “silenced” majority is about to ROAR.

Yes, right here in Murtha’s district.
We have huge Russell brigade sign in this little Dem town.
McCain signs popping up next to Barry signs.
3 votes here for McPalin(condition of my 21 yr old’s liberal education). She thinks Barry and Biden are slimeballs. Other one is 25, on her own and she agrees.
as for me and my house we will serve the Lord......
my 12 yr old’s school went for McPalin-he was shocked-thought it was all Barry land.

If you want to help put McCain over the top in the battleground states, a few bucks given here would help tremendously.

Dick Morris cited this group as being one of the big factors in McCain’s comeback (but don’t let that discourage you from donating ;-) ).

I think that McCain will win the election.

However, it does look like the house and senate drift more firmly into the democrats grasp.

Which means McCain will be sorely tempted to nominate a liberal chief justice to avoid a terrible confirmation fight. It will take a lot of doing for conservatives to get a conservative chief justice on the bench.

The only positive thing about McCain winning is keeping this marxist out of the white house. COnservatives are going to fighting McCain every single day for 4 years.

“It will take a lot of doing for conservatives to get a conservative chief justice on the bench.”

‘John Glover Roberts, Jr. (born January 27, 1955) is the seventeenth and current Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Appointed by President George W. Bush, Roberts is generally considered a member of the more conservative wing of the court.’ (from Wikipedia)

WTF are you talking about?

Well, more or less, Obamao is just a tremendous threat to the Constitutional Republic, he has no respect for the guard rails in the Constitution, he will undermine them every chance he has to do so.

His Joyce Foundation’s stealth purpose was to flood legal journals with anti 2nd amendment articles to influence rullings.

The man is a total menace to the Republic, I can stomach McCain, Obamao...no way.

Jimmy Carter was a former governor and a peanut farmer. Obama is a former community organizer with no executive experience. At least Carter had some executive experience, although he turned out to be one of the most incompetent Presidents in US history, and people knew what a peanut was...they don’t know what a community organizer is.

If it goes poorly on election there will be a huge battle ahead.

even if McPalin win there will be a huge battle.
If he governs from the left middle the Republican party will fracture and we get Hillary 2012.
Look at George H: Clarence Thomas and then Souter(little weird mouse from NH).

I just saw Michael Steele on Hannity (FOX) discussing the Obama/LA Times tape controversy. You have to wonder why Steele wasn’t picked as a VP candidate. He’s a great debater. Maybe in 2012.

Talk about no experience. Good guy but he’d have been seen as a cynical pick.
