Early vote tally through Wednesday (Florida update)
The Buzz: Florida Politics ^ | 10/30/08 | St. Petersburg Times Staff

Posted on 10/30/2008 9:51:13 AM PDT by Rumierules

The Democrats' latest tally for ballots cast through Wednesday shows that Democrats have cast 205,205 more absentee or early votes than Republicans have.

What's even more eye-popping is that so far, nearly 3-million people have voted (2,982,896). Of the 1,302,982 absentee ballots cast, Democrats cast 35.64 percent, Republicans cast 49.41 percent, and others cast 14.95 percent. Of the 1,679,914 early votes, Democrats cast 53.22 percent; Republicans, 30.32 percent; and other, 16.46 percent.

More than 6% Democrats have vote than Republicans in Florida.

Unfortunately, this does not help the argument that the polls have been overweighting their samples with too many Dems.

Democratic early voters made Kerry look like he was ahead in FL as well. Difference between Dem voters and GOP voters? We aren’t on welfare, so we can’t rush out to the polls whenever we want.

I believe a poll was published yesterday that stated McCain was ahead (based on the poll results) in early voting even though more Democrats had voted.

First, all Dems don't vote Obama: exit polls (of small samples) showed McCain with a 4 point lead in this early voting.

Second, early voting in 2004 had Kerry winning. Not sure this is good news at all for Obama---to be losing in a state that Kerry was already winning.

There is no model for this year. Alot of Dems will vote for McCain. Alot of Democrat Florida Jews will vote for McCain. It’s as simple as that.

I'm in Florida and we have a couple of co-workers who are registered democrats but they voted for McCain because one was scared of O's socialist messages and the other was a Hilary Clinton supporter and is angry how she was treated by the O camp. So yes you may see registered democrats voted but important thing is...is how they voted.

Among the 16 percent of Florida voters who say they already have cast ballots, Kerry is ahead 56 - 39 percent

Just Go Vote, Please.

If you have a relative who sometimes does not vote, and if the relative supports McCain (no matter how weakly), take that relative to the polls with you.

I noticed an inconsistency in how complete the information is that is being reported in this newspaper blog and have sent the following email to the writer:

“In the “Battleground Tampa Bay: The early vote” post, I noticed that Hernando and Pasco counties indicated that their absentee counts did not include voters’ registered parties. However, in your daily posts regarding the Democrats’ latest tally, there is no indication that a certain percentage of the absentee count is without party identity. Do the Democrats have more complete information than the Hernando and Pasco counties?

Thanks”

Let you know if an explanation is given.

Saw a longer version of this in the St Pete Times this AM. These figures are for the Tampa Bay area only. And these numbers are a bit skewed because Hillsborough County (Tampa) is heavily Democrat.

For Florida as a whole, something on the order of 25 or 30% of all registered voters have either voted early, or cast an absentee ballot. If memory serves, the splits by party of votes cast were roughly equivalent, with the Dems having a few more.

Since the morning McCain announced Sarah Palin as his running mate - This original “Reagan Democrat” has felt something that I have not felt since 1980. That feeling is still there and just as strong. Have faith my friends. We did it then, and we did not have talk radio to help us along. We will do it again.

Black voters are voting early. Also many Democrats in Florida are Republican voters and I have no doubt McCain is picking up more than 6% of them. The question is how many Republicans Obama will pick up. I am certain McCain will pick up more Democrats in Florida than Obama will pick up Republicans.
