If this was the case, Clinton would have enacted his National Health Plan (as would have Truman and Nixon before him), and Reagan would have been able to slice off huge swaths of Government spending and red tape and balanced the budget in his first term.
And in the case of Clinton his party had full control of the legislative branch in 1994 as well.
No matter who was elected in 2000, their agenda would have been stymied by a congress which has it's own much narrower agenda to fulfill. Namely spending tens of billions on earmarks to insure their reelection.
The best thing out of Steve Forbes is his flat tax. I am sure a bunch of people could talk themselves into turning into a bad Idea, but I like it was awesome. File your taxes with a 3x5 card sized document and your done. No high school drop out (Charles Wrangel) in charge of 60,000 pages of tax code.
I proudly voted for Forbes in the 2000 primary.
Time for Forbes to make a comeback, not as President, we already have someone we are looking forward to in 2012, however, there are a lot of cabinet positions I would like to see him in.
I was just saying to someone last evening that Forbes was the smartest one running in 2000; but Bush had the name recognition.
My Freeper namesake is a very good guy, and he is a genius when it comes to fiscal policy. I voted for him in 1996, but he dropped out too soon for me to vote for him in 2000.
He would have been sensational both socially and economically. (sigh)...... what could have been...... Maybe he’ll try again someday. He’s only about 60 or so.
I’ve always been a Forbes supporter. I would vote for him today if he ran again.
Studying up on Sarah Palin after she was announced, one of the first things that impressed me was that she worked for Forbes’ campaign in Alaska.
