Big turnout meant big lines on the last day of early voting in Colorado. Thousands of people lined up at the three voting locations in Colorado Springs. Wait times exceeded 3 hours.
"I'm shocked," said Lisa Schmick as she joined the line at Centennial Hall where the line stretched out the door. "I thought everybody voted on the 4th. I thought ...'we're going to beat the lines coming early'".
The line there was so long some got frustrated and just gave up.
"It's pretty discouraging," said Louis Spicciati, who decided to leave and come back on November 4th. "You've got to wait for at least an hour in the hot sunshine before you can even get inside."
Election officials say the numbers were unprecedented. More than 37,000 people voted early in El Paso County, roughly 5,000 more than the 2004 election.
"It's a good thing for Election Day. It'll help ease the lines at the poll places," said Liz Olson, El Paso County Election Manager.
Olson said the county also issued a record number of mail-in ballots. "We've issued over 150,000 mail in ballots and have close to 100,000 of those back already."
Twice. McCain and Palin came here together right after the GOP Convention before an overflow crowd of 10,000. On a cold Monday Oct 20th Palin returned with Hank Williams Jr. before a crowd of roughly 8,500 at Security Service Field.
I’d be surprised if McCain gets the level of votes that Bush garnered in 2000 and 2004.
Not me, not with the crowds Palin drew there.
I’ve lived here for 30+ years and I know the politics of El Paso County like the back of my hand. Palin has a big following, but many conservatives will simply not vote for John McCain, period. On Caucus Day, Republicans chose Romney overwhelmingly.
No, they will vote for Palin. As to McCain, he has always been pro-life vs Romney who did it for expediency and was anything but conservative as governor of MA. Are you telling me Colorado Springs is heavily Mormon?
I’m telling you that Colorado went for Romney in the state-wide caucus and he took El Paso County with overwhelming numbers, something like 75% of the vote. McCain and the others barely registered.
The McCain-Palin ticket will win El Paso County. But the difference between getting 65% and 60%, is the difference between winning or losing the state.
MIchelle Obama was here with Kevin Cosner this week and she drew a big crowd. Obama is in Pueblo, 30 miles south, tomorrow and they expect a huge crowd for a town of 95K, mostly Democrats. Romney will be here tomorrow in the Springs at some family center. I think McCain is coming back Monday.
This is by far, the toughest election season for a Republican ticket I’ve ever seen in all my years in Colorado.
Because CO like AZ and NV and more have been infiltrated with damned Californian’s who are bringing their failed voting policies with them. I wish once they screw up a state they would STAY in that state and not screw up the good states.
BTW when did Kevin Costner become a Democrat. He was a Republican for years and years. Was it after he moved to CO?
True but illegal votes have been recently allowed to be counted (although under scrutiny). Do you remember what happened in the ‘04 election for WA Governor (Rossi vs Gregoire)? The same situation could happen in Colorado in November. You read here first.
I agree. Any news from Boulder?
Colorado in on the way!
In Colorado ballots, you can find many other socialists and Nader to compete for the Presidency. Their votes could have a huge effect on the result.
Have you found democrats (or independents) for Kerry in 2004, now voting for McCain? Please, post a vanity and provide us further information. Thank you!
The possible bad news is that both Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin could end up taking enough of the conservative votes to also help Barack Obama win on November 4, if it’s very close between both Obama and McCain. Anything could happen on November 4.
The last time middle America woke up this startled, scared, and angry was in 1994, and they crushed everything in their path!!! Today, we are starting 25 yards behind the starting line in a 100 yard race, so the absolute numbers will not be as then, but we will still prevail. There will be JAW DROPPING SHOCK on election night.
I call that as pure BS! They are not conseravtives at all if they stay home this election and enable a hard core Marxist to get elected. This election, there is no such thing as voting "present".
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will campaign in Colorado Springs and the Denver area Saturday for Presidential candidate John McCain.
Romney will appear in the Denver suburb of Greenwood Village at 6:30 Saturday night.
Romney will be at Mr. Biggs Family Fun Center at 4:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs.
HAHA!
Hmm, so the media and illegal Obama campaign monies are not having the intended affect?
That’s not good.
:)
Pulverize the Rat Media. Vote McCain-Palin.
“Long lines observed in NC in 3 voting places. While I waited in line I saw a truck go by several times with huge NOBAMA signs with larger than life pictures including the Muslim garb picture and the picture with a cigarette hanging from his mouth.”
That’s blood great. I can just picture that.
How did folks in line react to that?
