Two British women told today how they were attacked by a huge vulture at a Tenerife zoo.
Mary Corcoran, 56, needed hospital treatment after she was pinned down by the griffon vulture.
The species has a wingspan of up to nine feet and can weigh nearly two stone.
It swooped on the two holidaymakers from Suffolk as they watched a show at the popular Jungle Park in Tenerife.
Ms Corcoran and her friend Teresa Largent screamed as the bird swooped at them at the end of their week-long holiday, clawing and pecking them.
A keeper rushed to the rescue but had to punch the vulture away after it came back for more.
Ms Corcoran, who is still in shock, says she feared at one stage that the bird was going to eat her.
First it pecked Ms Largent's stomach, then it pinned Ms Corcoran down by perching on her shoulder.
The mother-of-three from Kesgrave says she felt a burning sensation down her back and arm as the claws dug into her skin.
'It seems so unreal now. We were watching the bird show and the vulture was on its perch but then it decided to fly across the arena to us and went on to my shoulder.
'I could not look to see what was causing me this pain because the bird was on my back. 'My friend said I was screaming but I can't remember it.
'The keeper came over and got the bird away but as he was taking me out of the arena, it flew back towards me and the keeper had to thump it.
...Ms Largent, 52, of Ipswich, said the bird's beak felt like a pair of scissors cutting into her.

At least she isn't paranoid. The bird was trying to eat her. A stone is 14 pounds. A 28 pound vulture is a pretty big bird.

Ick. Vultures eat carrion. When they get upset, they tend to puke as an initial defense. It's fairly vile smelling given the initial input.

Three people sitting around talking about reincarnation:
The first said he wanted to come back as a lion because
it is the king of beasts.
The second said he wanted to come back as an elephant
because it was the largest and strongest animal.
The third was an Indian, he wanted to come back as a
buzzard because it eats everything, nothing eats it.
