Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Leading Challenger Bruce Lunsford (of Chicago) 53% to 45%
WHAS-11 TV (Live Report) ^ | November 2, 2008

Hillary was in Louisville, KY today stumping for democrat challenger Bruce Lunsford who has 11 homes across the nation in 5 states with his primary residence being in Chicago (enough with Chicago already!) Lunsford is trying to pry the U.S. Senate seat out of the hands of incumbent and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Mitch McConnell.

Shouldn't Jack Murtha go campaign for McConnell saying “No God****ed Carpetbagger is going to represent this district?”

I have said from last spring, McConnell by 7-10 points. Local dems just blowing smoke if they ever thought Lunsford had a chance.

Our local paper put the Daily KOS poll on the front page last week showing the race a “dead heat”. Even in this dem poll, McConnell was still up 4. Had to laugh at our liberal local paper. Of course they didn’t identify the poll unless you read the fine print.

To be honest, Mitch has had to put on a major push against Lunsford. What saved him was generous local support from individual donors to counter the moveon.org financing (in the hundreds of thousands of dollars).

Also, Lunsford has some pretty cagey advertising types working for him who put together some pretty convincing ads - lies but convincingly told none the less.

I believe that McConnell should win by at least 2.5-3% on election day.

That’s good news. McConnell isn’t a conservative ideologue, and he likes pork a bit too much, but he is a masterful senate leader for the GOP.

The other Senate race where they are using the 2006 tactic of slick advertising to portray the Democrat as the conservative candidate has the Republican up by 11% the last I saw (Mississippi.)

McConnell has run a lot of ads against Lunsford. I hope he wins.

Yes he does, and he isn't an ideologue. Family in KY has, with many others, let him know they were very displeased with his vote on the Bailout fiasco, and told him they had to vote for him, but they expect him to shape up, and they will hold him to it. Believe me, they will too!

I will always respect McConnell for his principled fight against McCain Feingold. He strikes me as an honorable man without the typical Senator’s knack for self-aggrandizement.

But then I’ve been fooled before, so who knows.

McConnel hasn’t had any major missteps in his career. Plus, Kentuckians like having a senator with a lofty position in the Senate.

COOL! I donated a wee bit to Mitch. He has been, overall, a pretty good leader for the Rs since Frist left.

If McConnell stays, and we can keep below 60 Dems in the Senate, America is saved. If he is gone, even with less than 60 Dems, they'll be able to arm twist the limp wrist Republicans into doing anything they want. Mitch McConnell's re-election is probably the most important race in America today other than the Presidency.

Yep. Although I think it's safe to say that McConnell has viewed this threat from Lunsford very seriously.

Have you heard the whisper campaign re: Mitch being Homosexual?????? It broke over the weekend; then I heard a radio ad that demanded McConnell release his military records NOW this morning.....Lunsford is SLIME; the Dems are SLIME. I believe McConnell will triumph in a close race.

Blech is there an open office Lunsford hasn’t run for?

Didn’t Ashley Judd attack McCain saying we shouldn’t vote for him because he owns so many homes, then she started campaigning for Lunsford?

They’ve done that to McConnell since his very first race.
