A little food for thought and a question. I'm 51 and I do not remember a U.S. presidential campaign that ever used a face/portrait theme in its posters, bumper stickers, buttons, etc. like the Obama campaign has. Do any freepers recall anything similar? It is so reminiscent of Communist displays of Mao, Stalin, Lenin and more recently, the ubiquitous Saddam artwork that decorated Iraqi buildings. It is so dictator-like. This phenomenon alone should give pause to the general public.
Good point. Can anyone find that Berlin Obama poster that looks like it was copied from a Lenin poster?

It’s everywhere - on t-shirts in the mall...everywhere. I suppose if he wins the election we’ll have massive pictures of him on sides of buildings and billboards.
I have noticed many people wearing shirts with Obama’s likeness on them. I never ever noticed this in previous pres. campaigns.
Yes it is eeriliy like looking at Chairman Mao or other dictators.
And what about Obama’s huge rallies? He’s planning another one for election night in Chicago. Over 100,000 are expected for what they hope is a big nighttime victory rally. Do these rallies remind anyone of the Nazi rallies filled with mindless supporters???

You’re making the assumption that the general public is, by and large, intelligent. I’m sure most of the Obamatrons couldn’t even tell you about Stalin or Lenin. They just know that “The One” will be filling up their gas tanks and payin’ their bills!!
The style is called “Social Realism” and blossomed under Lenin.

I do not remember any personal images running in a campaign like the Obama '08 campaign. It is the cult of personality. All bow down to the ways of the personality, or else.
This is not a recent ocurrance. Imperial Rome had the cult of the emperor, with all of its statues and coins, which was a cult of personality.
I’ve got 7 years on you and I don’t remember anything like it. It is an eerie kind of subtlety that probably bothers people on a subliminal level. Good point!!

Yep, life is going to be oh so wonderful with Obama. It will be a continual orgasm of euphoria as Obama and Nancy P. and Harry Reid create a utopian society of “equal” rights for homosexuals and any other fringe elements, provide “equal” education in the inner city, provide “equal” healthcare for all, provide “green” energy for all, bankrupt evil coal producers and utilities which rely on coal, set up carbon trading systems, cut taxes for Joe the Plumber type people, ad nauseum..........
It runs cold chills down my spine every time I see it. I break out in a cold sweat and my heart pounds. I find it truly frightening.

There are some, but nothing as creepy as the stalinesque Obama campaign materials.
Actually they are hoping for a million at the “celebration” here in Chicago on election night. A news babe was interviewing a shop owner who was upset with the whole thing and said he was locking up early Tuesday for fear of violence. She gave the shocked response “You’re kidding!” She looked to be in her 20’s....
