If it is a tie. The House picks the President and the Senate picks the Vice President.

If it’s a tie, the current House of Representatives elects the Prez. We don’t want that.

If it’s a tie, what happens?

The House chooses the President and the Senate chooses the Vice President.

That also happens if no candidate gets a majority of the electoral votes. More here and here.

But we won't know until December when the Electoral College votes, since an elector might not vote for the candidate he or she is pledged to.

Or -- nightmare scenario -- a candidate wins by one electoral vote and that elector doesn't follow through, so the race goes to Congress in December anyway.

If the House can't decide and the Senate can, the new Vice President becomes Acting President. If neither the House nor Senate can decide, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, becomes Acting President.
