Waco radio station pulls controversial political portion of restaurant ad

An advertisement on a Waco talk radio station that told listeners to vote Tuesday for Republicans and Wednesday for Democrats has been changed, the station’s manager said today, adding that “some people just can’t take a joke.”

Jerry Lenamon, station manager at KBCT-FM 94.5, said one of his staffers designed the ad for Donald Citrano’s Coffee Shop Cafe in McGregor.

“It was meant to be funny,” Lenamon said. “Who would be so stupid to believe something like that?”

Waco resident Robert Denton, 57, said he was appalled when he heard the ad.

“Between education problems and language problems, someone could easily hear this ad and think they had an extra day to vote,” Denton said. “Voting can be complicated enough as it is.”

If anyone’s that stupid that they would believe a radio ad that tells them to vote on Wed., they have no business voting, because someone probably told them who to vote for, too. After all the ACTUAL voter fraud out there, they’re going after this guy to tell him to pull that part of the ad? This is madness! Have the authorities pulled the ACORN registrations? Didn’t think so.

I remember this gag circulating in 2000. You’d think people would eventually catch on that it’s a joke, but...

Indeed.

Ever notice that nobody ever tries to get Republicans to vote on the wrong day.

One election I took my then eight year old daughter with me to early voting. She proudly market the ballot just the way I wanted, and then took it to the final station to turn it in. As she handed it to the election worker, I asked her if she had remembered to sign the back of the ballot.

My daughter immediately caught on and chuckled. But about a dozen people who had just voted charged back to the election worker and demanded he return their ballots so they could properly complete them.

The Baylor baptists will almost surely vote similarly to other evangelical Christians. However, the rest of Waco has a population that is about 50% Black. I am willing to bet a good portion of them will vote for Barry.

I would have no problem signing my ballot or proudly printing my name for all to see... I am NOT the one to vote pestilence and taxes and big government on my neighbors. I can see, however, those who want to live at the expense of others would be ashamed for anyone to see THEIR ballots...

But did your election worker explain the facts of life to the idiots who wanted their ballots back?

The question that has yet to be asked: Did Mr. Citrano see any increased business because of that part of the ad? If in fact he did, the Station Manager did a disservice to Mr. Citrano.

Mr. Denton, however, acted like an ignoramus when he made those comments.

How sad that your daughter (at age 8!) understood the process better than than some of the adults who were voting!

No, I didn’t hear it, but I am guilty of listening to WBAP out of Dallas for my talk radio fix. I can’t imagine that anybody would take this seriously, can you?

Yup, they are the same ones that keep Chet Edwards in office (whimper).

The Coffee Shop Cafe is a regular stop for me and many of my biker friends. It is full of great Bush (Sr and W) memorabilia. This guy is one great Republican. I'm sure he was joking but no telling how many Dumb-o-crats he might have gotten.....
