Quit blaming the press and others for this defeat. Place the blame firmly where it belongs on the McCain campaign and the RNC. This was one of the worst run campaigns I can remember and the RNC did little to nothing to help McCain because of their displeasure/hatred of McCain.

Wills, Noonan, etc. and many here on FR tried to point this fact out and we were told to shut up if we won't get in line with the "party".

The Republican party needs to return to its base ideology and run candidates that support that ideology if they are going to have any chance in 2012. Obama is a snake oil salesman that should have been a walk over for the Republicans, but instead of supporting core conservative values McCain and company pandered to the issue of the moment and let the snake oil salesman out juke them at every turn. Republicans got exactly what they deserved in this election. Ronald Reagan would be ashamed of what the party has become.AWB

McCain was simply running on a “Bob Dole” redux ticket. His only value to the election was that he *WASN’T* a socialist.

Which is exactly the same tack Bob Dole used when running against Bill Clinton... ie: “Vote for me, I’m not my opponent”.

It didn’t work then, and it doesn’t work now. Why he’d pursue a patently failed election policy is another matter. But then, his record proves that he finds government to be the solution... whereas conservatives find government to be the problem.

Even liberals noted this...some told me they thought McCain was throwing the election out of displeasure with the RNC! (Some attributed it to them "forcing Palin on him"...showing that they perceive the RNC as a lot more conservative than I do!)

Wills, Noonan, etc. and many here on FR tried to point this fact out and we were told to shut up if we won't get in line with the "party".

See my tagline. The ranks of the FR Ostrich Brigade are swollen.

Agreed. But not that alone.

Obama is a snake oil salesman that should have been a walk over for the Republicans, but instead of supporting core conservative values McCain and company pandered to the issue of the moment and let the snake oil salesman out juke them at every turn.

Too many underestimated him, and McCain didn't strike back when he should have...and when he did, it came across as desperation.

Republicans got exactly what they deserved in this election. Ronald Reagan would be ashamed of what the party has become.

Yes, even viewing FR. The GOP stands for big government in simply a different flavor, and many FReepers have been cheering it along, trying to convince everyone that their arrogance was appropriate.

"I'm a Neocon...Yes! I am invincibul!"

Now, does the GOP learn, or continue as it did following 2006?
