Palin Plans to Remain on GOP's National Stage
The Washington Post ^ | Nov 5, 2008 (From the future, it seems) | Juliet Eilperin

Even if he loses his presidential bid, John McCain bequeathed an invaluable gift to his running mate, Sarah Palin: the national prominence that could allow her to compete for the GOP's nomination in 2012.

While the Alaska governor has avoided speculating on a future presidential bid in recent interviews, she has made it clear that she intends to remain an important player within the party. And the national following she has developed among the conservative faithful over the past couple of months provides her with the sort of political and fundraising base that could support a run.

If Palin does seek the White House, her campaign would be far different from McCain's. The senator from Arizona launched his presidential bid in 2007 with the aim of establishing a more inclusive, enduring Republican majority for the 21st century that would include Latinos, conservative Democrats and independents. Palin, by contrast, has sketched out a far more conservative vision for the GOP, one of American exceptionalism in which free-market capitalism and traditional social values remain paramount.

She needs to start in California.

Educate people who have been dumbed down and indoctrinated by the leftists who run the public schools.

Teach Californians what America was founded to be and the value of liberty.

If the GOP continues to ignore California it can expect to struggle in every national election.

From the article...

"It took the Democrats 12 years after Reagan and 20 years after McGovern to come back to the center."

Bull $hit!

"It took the hard left Democrats 12 years after Reagan and 20 years after McGovern to find a hard left poser who would appear to be of the center."

I’m with you. Everyone who is talking about “2012” does really not get what has happened. If we have another election we will be lucky. People are going to take awhile for it to sink in, by then the marxists will have completely taken all the jobs in govnment and put everything in place to get our guns blah blah blah. Maybe we should succeed and drive the liberals out of the west or something and keep our guns. Although you can bet your boots they have tons of guns in the ready...What you are suggesting reminds me of a Taylor Caldwell novel. I think it was “Devils Advocate” where the good guys did every thing they could to ruin things, and it looked like the ‘good heroes’ were killed but one by one they were taken to the other side to make it tough on the people. The people did eventually wake up.

knowiong what we know now, Ronmey would’ve better a better candiate under the conditions. Mccain was the security guy. Ronmey was the economy guy. When the market crashed, Romney would’ve been able the media much better than Mccain

No, it’s true. Unfortunately, I do know people who said they would not vote for McCain BECAUSE of Palin. And these folks voted the GOP ticket for the last twenty years.

The polls about Palin are B.S. as far as that goes. She got a bad rap from the press, ala Dan Quayle. Americans have pr oven tonight they are really, really stupid. As much as I love Sarah Palin, she is history as a presidential candidate because of McCain. Unless they somehow pull of a miracle that is.

It was clearer after the financial crisis, I agree.

I don’t believe Governor Palin repelled twice as many people as she attracted. I believe she attracted twice as many people as she repelled. That still accounts for the people to whom you refer.

You have to work within the belly of the beast. The libs own the schools, the university, the unions, the media, they’re in the gov’t, the churches. You have to infiltrate. Eat them up from the inside

They did to her what they did to Dan Quayle, absolutely. That may effect who Republican presidential candidates pick for the forseeable future until the MSM is defeated. They are not going to risk someone not nationally known, because of what the media does to them.

It remains to be seen exacctly what is in store for Governor Plain. However, her talent should not be permitted to go to waste. We have to devise a plan to rehabilitate her national image, after the damage the dems have caused her.

My view is that McCain was a drag on Palin. The attack on her — from our own side as well as from the other — was a way of attacking the conservative movement, and more importantly, conservative ideas.

Important to focus on this, that is, what the attacks were really about. Awhile ago I posted a column by EJ Dionne, which said that the McCain campaign had listed too far to the right. This contention is, of course, nuts: McCain did not go right — there was no talk in this campaign of abortion, gay marriage, or any of the social issues, little discussion of terrorism, and some of the wackiest tax policy discussion I’ve heard in a long time. That’s NOT conservative.

The ONLY conservative in this race was Palin, who raised the issues by her presence. Important for the lib-wing of the Republican Party & for all Democrats to vilify her, as a proxy for vilifying all conservative ideas.

I raise this because we can’t rebuild if we don’t understand what the attacks were all about, and if we go wobbly about our soldiers.

One of the problems with Republicans is that they’re the people who creep onto the field after the battle and shoot the wounded. They — and colleagues on this post who attack Palin — should understand: had Jindal or any real conservative been the vp choice, the savaging would have been the same.

Palin is NOT damaged goods. Anyone who says that is denying the evidence of their own eyes — her rallies out drew and out-enthused everyone’s, including quite often Obama’s. She has a national base now — which is more than anyone else has. She is young, she has her own people, and she has learned. Even better — she is now in a position to make some money, with a book and speaking tour — which provides more exposure and also the right kind of financial buffer to allow her to continue to build an organization.

My view — she’s a natural. I’ve worked with pols for years, and you can teach a lot, but you can’t teach someone how to connect with crowds. She does it like fish swim.

Her limitations in speeches and with reporters came from the bans created by the McCain campaign. She could only say certain things, and had to avoid others. For an executive type, like her, that must have been a strain. Sometimes it showed.

Anyway — to summarize: The people who criticize her should stop reading & worrying about the NY Times, and understand what the criticism of her was really all about. Throw over Palin and you throw over the ideas and the best (in the sense of well-placed) spokesman we have.

Sorry that this is such a long post, but I’ve seen some trashing of her on FR, and it’s so wrong headed that I wanted to try to correct it.

That's because there are some moderate conservatives on FR.

We need to have Palin campaign with/for true conservatives in/for 2010. This will keep her in the spotlight, and help those she campaigns for.

If Obama lets the Pelosi/Reid cabal dictate to him how to govern, IE a very in your face liberalism, he will be a one term president. In that case, it is not so far flung that Hillary could be the one to lead a third party that governs from the center. A national unity party if you will.

Hypothetical because the votes were still being counted, Obaama had (at the time) well under 270 EVs and I didnt want to deal with flames about being a negative nellie even thought it was clear to me that McCain was toast when I made that post.
