On top of everything else tonight, this really sucks. I left Massachusetts to get away from liberal fruitcakes but it looks like Virginia has joined their ranks.

yep it appears that way. Goodlatte survived but a New York lawyer won in Southwest Virginia

Good grief. Nothing has gone right for us. While Goode’s district is rural, it does have a college town. Perhaps the youth vote did come out.

It’s still close enough for a recount.

Blame the People’s Republic of Charlottesville and the liberal transplants who’ve retired to central VA?! I suspected that Obama would narrowly win the state, but I thought VA had only caught a light case of “the blues.” This is a major blow, I don’t know if we can recover.

You’ve got to be kidding me. I didn’t think there was any way Goode could lose the 5th.

I don’t think I recognize my home state anymore.

Goode won with something like 58% in ‘04. What has happened is that a bunch of ultra-liberal Northeastern elites have poured $$$ into the Democratic Party and were able to buy this election at every level. I think this is why Dole lost in NC too - Hagan got money from some creepy Boston atheist. I like to think that Obama is a decent enough guy that he will try to control the more extreme leftist elements in his party, but some how I doubt it, since they created him. Hopefully people will wake up and we can restore some sanity in 2010...

It’s the garbage people in the Northern part of the state. You know the Big Government Bureaucrats who live in DC suburbs.

What happened? A very bad choice of campaign, where Goode kept hammering that TP was a “New York lawyer”. Well, guess what, he isn’t. The nail in the coffin have been the radio and TV spots with Tom’s parents, IN VIRGINIA ACCENTS, saying their son is a native.

Not cool.

Also, Goode voted against some of those bills for veterans because of all the junk attached to them and the Dems turned it on him.

Goodlatte won because he didn’t run negative ads, and his opponent’s name is Sam Rasoul.

Maybe we can pay Rasoul to run some more. I’ll be gld when we can get some conservatives state wide. I hope we can win the next governors race. Cain is the the pits

It also didn’t help Goode one bit to keep hammering about the “New York lawyer”, when his Rocky Mount (VA) main office is a stone’s throw from Smith Mountain Lake, home to a gazillion transplants from New York/New Jersey.

The 5th isn’t really in NoVA, though it does include C-ville and the surrounding areas which are just as liberal... All we can do is wait and see what happens when Obama and the dems f things up even more

Massachusetts elected 2 GOP reps in the early 90s if you can believe that (also voted for Reagan twice, once while Mike Dukakis was governor). So I like to think that Virginia’s left turn is only temporary, but I tend to be an optimist.
