Only in San Francisco.
We're talking about Proposition R. It called for the renaming of the city's sewage treatment plant after President George W. Bush.
While the measure got international recognition it easily went down in defeat on Tuesday.
It was the first race called by the San Francisco Registrar of Voters.
The first votes that came in showed the idea was not getting the approval of San Franicsco voters with 70-percent saying "no" to the idea.
The proposition is the brainchild of a man named Chicken John.
What Chicken John may not realize is that Measure R would cost taxpayers about $50,000.
The Public Utilities Commission would have to change the sign over the door as well as brochures that are given to visitors. Those visitors include San Francisco school children.
Chicken John also may not realize the treatment plant has won awards from the national EPA, according to the man who runs the plant.
The would-be "George W Bush Treatment Plant", currently the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant, protects the ocean, fish, mammals and people.
Those who work at the plant are proud that there has never been one violation found there.
They initially thought the re-naming idea was a joke.
They're not laughing now.
Again, the Proposition is losing in early results.
Thank God for small blessings.

I was actually hoping this would win and Bush could wear it with pride and shame them. Ah well, victory either way.
Good.
Actually this would not be a disgrace but kind of an honor. The plumbers and waste disposal experts of the world have done more to improve human health and increase human lifespan than all the doctors combined. And I say this as a doctor!
This election has been crazy. My sister’s Father in law R from Marin County voted for O. Now he has a small business but thinks CHANGE would be good. This is one of the most Christian men I know. He’s a pastor. All the people looking for change are going to feel and see it soon enough and I can’t wait to be there to watch them CHANGE their minds about all this change business.
You have to know the only reason it went down in flames as it did is because no one in Frisco wants to see that name on ANYTHING.
Too many people have no idea of what Obama really stands for bacause the media was too busy reporting on Sarah’s clothes closet.
How many of these kids who voted for Obama have considered the real implications of his million man “Civilion Defense Force” in combination with his support for mandatory community service?
I’d be proud to have a sewage treatment plant named after me.
Zero...They will soon find out.
