It seems almost like a “Stockholm Syndrome”-like effect. In this case the voters in that part of PA have so bonded with Murtha, that no matter what he says about or does to them, they still submissively and faithfully follow him. Apparently, his comments about racists and rednecks were calculated in order to challenge his fawning flock (i.e. constituents) to prove him wrong and vote for Obama. And vote for Obama they did, also re-electing Murtha in the process. Pretty slick move on his part. He knew all along his faithful, ever-dependent, submissive flock would never stray.
Voter fraud?
Murtha brings defense spending home and props up what passes for an economy in Johnstown. It’s that simple.
All they are interested in is somebody who will rob their better-off neighbors on their behalf. Call them racists or redencks. Just make sure that you deliver. Slaves cannot be too particular and will certainly submit to abusive treatment. He was never in danger. Never.
I had a relative say they wanted to prove him wrong, and thinks thats why he said it in the first place.
It's really that simple . . . and it's a pattern you'll see repeatedly across the country in any district where a long-term Congressman sits.
Heck -- the voters in Alaska re-elected two Republicans (Don Young and Ted Stevens) who may very well be in prison before they can finish their next term in office.
