Castro (District) celebrates Obama, bemoans a Prop. 8 win

(11-05) 10:19 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Jack Hannan and his partner of 10 years, Steven Gard, didn't get married when Mayor Gavin Newsom took the historic step of granting licenses to gay couples in 2004.

Now the San Francisco couple worry they won't get a second chance.

"We waited because we wanted the issue settled," said Hannan, 39. "Now we're really nervous."

This morning, it was clear that voters had approved Proposition 8, which would amend the California Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. Even as thousands in San Francisco's Castro district poured into the streets to dance, chant and wave flags after Barack Obama's victory, the epicenter of the nation's gay rights movement was awash in a mix of emotions.

Not far from a plaza named for slain city supervisor and gay rights activist Harvey Milk, people looked anxiously at their cell phones for the latest figures on the controversial measure that had drawn national attention and millions of dollars in spending from both sides.

"We waited because we wanted the issue settled,"

Congrats to them - they did the right thing. Now, it _IS_ settled.

Don't believe them. The liberals will never let people live and let live even though the rest of us want to do that. They will keep on trying to impose their perverted values upon the rest of us.

You got that right.

Later in the article...

“If it’s passed, the legal counsel for No on 8 will find a way to bring it to the surface again and defeat it,” said Durso, 44. “I just can’t imagine our basic civil rights being taken away.”

A liberal judge will overturn it, constitutional amendment or not.

This is California...

The right of the rest of us to have marriage be a union of a man and a woman and to have children raised with a father and a mother, needs to be taken away from us so a bunch of queers can feel better about themselves. We don't count, even though we are the majority in this country.

California. Just wait until Hussein gets his judges into the Supreme Court, when his first priority is “feelings”.

I got into a nice argument with my wife’s friend over gay marriage yesterday. She tried to tell me that times are changing, that we need to change also and accept that homosexuals should be allowed to integrate with the rest of us as equals. She told me that things are not like they were back in the last century.

I was so taken back by her saying this that I lost my cool big time. I said “So, because we have things like high speed internet, HDTV’s, GPS navigators, and incredibly powerful computers at our fingertips we should accept that it is okay to **** another guy up the *** and everyone be accepting of it now that “times have changed?”

She never did give me a reply when I asked her to please explain why it is okay because times have changed, what is so different now that means gays can approach and solicit sex from your teen age son and you not have a problem with that.

I don’t think I will be invited over to her house any time soon now.

Oh please. Like the homos in Castro care a lick (sorry) about MARRIAGE? They have like 70 anonymous sex partners per year! What a joke.

of the ‘millions’ of queers in California, only a thousand or so have taken advantage of the marraige option. This pretty much tell us that they don’t have any interest in marriage and monogamy in the first place. They just wanted to destroy marriage to get even with straight people.

Then I certainly hope you don't think you won that argument.

People, this is why we're losing! If we want to win conversations, we have to take part in discourse with the other side on a civil level. We have to listen to their arguments (or at least pretend to), then respond with ours in a cool, calm, and collected manner. We know our arguments by heart; we just have to resist the urge to yell at the stupidity that gets dems elected and liberal policies passed.

Sodomites know that their entire perverted sex life is abnormal.

The reason they pushed for queers to marry is because
their life style is sterile and can not replenish their
cult, therefor they must recruit the young.

I haven’t read Prop. 8, anybody here do so, and have an opinion on what will happen to the certificates already granted?

Our Attorney General Jerry Brown is saying that all gay marriages before Prop 8 passed are still valid. However, there could be a legal fight on whether that is truly the case since it’s also possible that by banning marriage again, all those marriages would be voided.

I have some gay friends and I think they are great people. I’m not afraid of them. I would never call them queer or homos. They are good folks. I don’t understand why all the hate displayed here? Wow, my eyes are really being opened today. In a world of hurting, struggling fellow human beings, myself being a Christian, I felt like reaching out. But all I hear is hate, hate, hate. I too think marriage should be between a man and a woman, but I don’t spit on anyone, because Jesus has said that all men are brothers. Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself. This is what I hear in church on Sundays. I’m really shocked.

Heh. I agree with this sentiment. I’m not for Gay Marriage, and was glad Prop 8 passed. At the same time, I don’t disparage gay and lesbian people in general since, I’ve talked to a lot of them, and most are wonderful people. True, I might disparage Ellen Degeneres or Rosie O’Donnell, but only because they are some of the most vocal and arrogant of the bunch.

I’m against the liberal agenda. Not the people (unless they are arrogant and spiteful like a lot of the left is) behind them.
